Throughout the book, readers will not only encounter the writings of Angus and Angharad themselves but also extracts from classic novels by Edgar Allan Poe, Georges Bataille, James Joyce or Christina Rossetti. Each one of these stories is accompanied by dreamful pieces of art that exalt both imagination and desire. The topic of sexuality is especially conceived through the playful link between picture and words.

Focusing on “Symbolism & Sensuality”, the Purple Book features contemporary artists such as Timothy Hon Hung Lee, Laura Laine or Jules Julien and Makiko Sugawa. The colour purple – as implied in the title – is an ongoing theme throughout the book and mediates sensory headiness, decadence, sexuality but also mystery, faith and mortality.

Angus Hyland is a contributor of .Cent magazine and is featured in .Cent’s Breaking Boundaries Directory. The Purple Book will be published by Laurence King Publishing.
