Scented Spain

By Jo Phillips

In your mind’s eye, you can imagine the scent of early morning Spain, maybe more of the countryside but nevertheless, the ideas of a morning Spanish dew is a wonderful scent to conjure up.

Think of the first moments of a morning wafting wild mountain herbs towards an open window, think fennel, rosemary, mountain pepper, and intoxicating rockrose. But this was exactly what Cass and Jonathan Hall did; except they turned to their Spanish Mountian home as an inspiration for their own candle collection

They say:-‘La Montaña candles conjure up memories and dreams of the Mediterranean, and of holidays in the sun.  They are guaranteed not only to smell wonderful, but also to look great on the mantlepiece – each candle bears its own unique and collectable label in the style of a nostalgic 1930’s travel poster.  La Montaña candles truly are an affordable luxury’.

There is a wonderfully wide range of scents on offer from Alfredo’s Café; a rich and comforting: coffee, brandy, and black tobacco, laced with leather and incense. ‘

An unusual, rich, comforting blend of the best aromas of our village square – coffee, brandy, and black tobacco, laced with leather and incense from the church. Alfredo and his café are real – and wonderful.  The only thing missing from this fragrance is the sound of old men slamming down their dominoes’.

Or why not try Winter Oranges A warm, spicy blend of Valencia orange, cinnamon, red apple, and clove

‘A warm, spicy, zesty blend of Valencia orange, cinnamon, red apple, and clove. This is our interpretation of the fragrance of the Valencian orange harvest that takes place throughout winter, with added hints of nostalgia from the English Christmases of our childhoods’.

If you are a lover of fresh florals then why not try Galán de Noche; An intoxicating night-scented jasmine, with tantalising hints of rose, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang. Galan De Noche is is a species from the plant(the potato family.

A heady, night-scented jasmine candle, with tantalising hints of rose, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang.

‘In August we place a pot of Galán de Noche outside our open bedroom window.  Yes, the sound of the all-night village fiestas wakes us, but the divine scent makes it worth it’.

The Siesta is a must for all those who love Spain and is filled with the gentles fragrances of lavender, juniper, and thyme.

“A summer haze of lavender, juniper, and thyme. It’s siesta time: close your eyes and imagine yourself drowsing on a hot afternoon, gently swinging in a hammock in the shade of a tree, with the crickets chirruping, and the sun-baked fragrances of the countryside lulling you to sleep”.

There are nine delicious fragrances in the full-sized candle collection but the brand also has mini gift sets, diffusers posters, and candle lids. The reed diffusers come in four scents and there is a choice of four different posters all, of course, encompassing the beautiful deco artwork of the candles.

The couple behind the brand have much knowledge of both beauty and storytelling as Cass was the Communications Director of Lancôme beauty and her husband Jonathan a screen writer for film and TV

So should you like the idea os scents that evoke the stories of Spain then this is your new best friend!
