Breeze; La Roche-Posay

By Jo Phillips

When I picture natural sophistication and effortless beauty, I picture the French. Coco Chanel once said, “If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack.” We can all envision this perfect Parisian girl, with her diet of cigarettes and coffee, minimal makeup and supernaturally glorious skin. There is a reason why French style is world-renowned, and its skincare is no different. You can walk into any drugstore in France and get amazing dermatological skincare.

La Roche-Posay is a perfect example of what French skincare stands for; it’s trustworthy, affordable, clinically tested and straightforward. La Roche-Posay has been working with dermatologists for 30 years to ensure their products are as simple as they can be (ie: sans parabens, fragrance and soap) in order to meet the needs of sensitive skin. The tubes reduce the possibility of contamination, as they only let in a minimal amount of air and light, helping to preserve the ingredients.

Beyond this, they infuse all of their products with their own Thermal Spring Water, rich in antioxidants. This is also where the brand takes it name from; it’s the name of French village that’s the source of the spring water that forms the base of all their products.

Finding products that work for sensitive skin can be difficult because of the anxiety that often accompanies the search. However, if you are one of the many with sensitive skin, look no further than skincare brand La Roche-Posay.

Senior Brand Manager Elly Sandberg explains why La Roche-Posay has been such as a steady brand in France, and why it has turned heads in the UK: “In France, most people see a dermatologist from birth, they’re used to dermatological skincare and will grow up using La Roche-Posay. It’s a household name. In the UK only 2% of us go to a dermatologist so awareness is low.”

The brand has some exciting news, “makeup for sensitive skin finally a reality,” La Roche-Posay says. Their makeup, just like their skincare, is hypoallergenic and gentle. They know how common eye-sensitivity is, and have tailored their products to help with that.

Nine out of ten English dermatologists would recommend the products, including Dr. Justine Hextall, a consultant dermatologist for La Roche-Posay. “Often those with sensitive eyes shy away from makeup, however this range is specifically formulated to minimise irritation,” Hextall said.

It is exciting that the company has expanded to release makeup that you can trust, no matter how problematic your skin is. See if one, or all four, of their new products are right for you and get some of that Parisian chic to your part of the world.
