BULK: Best of Sundance

As Sundance Film Festival has come to a close following it’s 10 day parade of the best indie films to see this year, we’ve recapped the top 5 films which are sure to make waves in the film industry for 2015.

1. Dope

This coming of age drama for the post hip hop generation has gained a tonne of buzz and positive reviews since its premiere at Sundance. The movie which hawks back to the 90s indie film but in a much more contemporary way, stars Zoe Kravitz, Forrest Whitaker and A$AP Rocky to name a few, and is a witty and smart look at our current social media led youth. In the age of Snapchat and Whatsapp, and complemented with a dope soundtrack.

2. The End of the Tour

Based on a true story of David Lipsky, a Rolling Stone reporter who interviewed author David Foster Wallace for fives days in 1996. The film takes an extraordinary look at the course of their relationship over the next few days, as the reporter develops a complicated relationship with the iconic writer, during his final stop on his book tour.

3. Me and Earl, and the Dying Girl

Me and Earl, and the Dying Girl displays a perfect balance of comedy and drama, as it explores the friendship between a filmmaker and his classmate who is dying of cancer. Directed by Alfonso Gomez- Rejon, this film has taken the top grand jury prize at Sundance, and has been described as the clear breakout hit from the festival this year.

4. Slow West

Slow West is a surreal road movie, which veers between magnificent and bizarre. Starring Michael Fassbender as a skilled gunslinger, journeying through the US with a young boy, this is no ordinary western and culminates in stylish and memorable sequences which makes it stand out above the rest.

5. True Story

This true story puts both Franco and Hill in roles we’ve never seen them in before, pushing their boundaries while keeping us intrigued in Rupert Gould’s crime first feature film. The movie is based on the story of Mike Finkel, a New York Times reporter who gets oddly drawn into the world of Christian Longo, an Oregon man accused of killing his wife and three children.

The power of film is being forged beyond the States, with Indiegogo joining forces with Berlinale Talents at the Berlin Film Festival. The summit programme offers a range of masterclasses and interactive panel discussions for young creatives and filmmakers, and to further support it, Indiegogo will host a network break out session on Monday 9th February from 3.30-5.00pm at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer theatre.
