Flowing; Fragrance: At the Heart of Summer

Eminent and innovative, we introduce two labels whose perfumes are redefining summer.

Marc Jacobs Splash 2017

The easy-going, light-hearted spirit of the eponymous fashion brand Marc Jacobs has been condensed into three fragrances remnant of fresh, elegant summer cocktails – crisp to the senses, mellow in colour, and instantly invigorating. Here, we take a look at these scents inspired by the original Marc Jacobs Splash Collection.

Cucumber: Immerse yourself in the cool scent of cucumber – green, delicious and fresh – developed by perfumer Mathew Nardin. Top notes of lotus leaf and bamboo compliment this scent, which is enhanced by a floral heart of lily of the valley, linden blossom, and Dutch fressia. More subtly, blonde woods and frosted musk linger.

Rain: Under perfumer Laurent Le Guernec, the fragrance – subtle and floral – opens with notes of wild strawberry and clementine zest. To accompany this, the middle offers a sumptuous blend of tropical rain accord, passion flower, and white accord, while the base smells of beech amber, tree moss, and musk.

Pear: The sweet nectar of summer is captured in this scent by perfumer Honorine Blanc of fragrance house Firmenich. Fresh, ripe pear invigorated with bergamot and lemon peel notes are balanced with juniper, gin accord, and freesia. Musk, teakwood, and soft amber gently surround these scents to bring forth softness and warm sensuality.

Aura MUGLER: A Masterful Orchestration

Moved by women and what he defined as their powerful instinct, Thierry Mugler dreamed of creating a fragrance that encapsulated it. This June, MUGLER will be releasing their third fragrance, A Masterful Orchestration, a scent that realises the French fashion designer’s ambition while in keeping with the label’s penchant for breaking boundaries.

The fragrance is dominated by both animalistic and botanical scents, a revolutionary combination that stems from its three hearts: Oriental, Botanical, and Carnal. The Oriental heart, as MUGLER has put, is formed by the dual scent, tiger liana – rich, sharp and smoky whilst also sensual. The Botanical heart, made up of rhubarb leaf and orange blossom, brings freshness, intensity and vibrant notes: the Rhubarb leaf ushers in a scent that is as tangy as it is fruity, while the orange blossom – a more juvenile note – is both fresh and gentle. Carnal, the third heart, consists of bourbon vanilla and wolfwood which, in this combination, create a distinctly “feline” touch to this excessive fragrance.
