Sharp: Unveiling Les Glorieuses

By Jo Phillips

Designer Sonia Bronstein talks about her new capsule collection Les GLORIEUSES.

Journey
My journey into the world of fashion began when I was a toddler. I was told that I must have been three or four years old, but I quite clearly knew what I wanted to wear and did not. As I grew older, my thoughts and likes grew stronger, and I began to express myself better in terms of what I liked about my clothes. I was specific. I was quite vocal about my favourite colours, the fabric and the comfort level of my clothes.

Paris & London
I grew up in Paris and, then some years ago, moved to London to set up a boutique PR agency. Hmmm…why did I choose London as the city to set up my business, especially when I could have done it in a city that I was immensely familiar with? I’d say because it felt more like a ‘twin sister’ to Paris. Having said that, I’d have to confess, London, for me, is both eccentric and conservative. Paris lacked these edges, while London offered me the chance to express myself.

Core Pieces
My capsule collection called Les GLORIEUSES is all about ultimate simplicity around core pieces: straight cuts, one size only, luxury fabrics and above all, timeless appeal. It is also about my everyday basics, my essentials: the chemistry of elegance and nonchalance. This is what I’ve been looking for, for years. So, I decided to take a leap of faith: I brought out my own line.
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR YEARS, SO I DECIDED TO DO IT MYSELF.
