My HERO for June

By Julie Jacobs

Unknowingly Protected

I had a my skin analysed  by a UV scanner recently and in one of the scans it showed that I was wearing SPF but had missed an area on my nose.  I was adamant I had not applied a SPF and that the machine was wrong; until I googled the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF30 I applied that morning…the machine was right. This is this months hero product; it is my cold weather favourite because it leaves my skin with a radiant glow.

Hero June BM

Unbeknown to a lot of us; a wide range of cosmetics and skincare contain SPF.  It’s every where, eye creams; moisturisers; foundations ( in my kit I carry YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint Foundation SPF22 and my models never go red when I use this on outdoor location shoots). A hero runner up because it has a permanent resident in my professional kit. Light, build-able, doesn’t dry on the skin and an wide, wide range of shades and colours.

Its even in products you might least expect like, hand creams for example the L’Occitane Almond hand  cream

and concealers .  UV protection seems to have become a ‘given’, just like ‘hypoallergenic’ before it.   Brands don’t hide this fact, it’s right there on the packaging.  It would definitely stop me from doubling up on protection … if only I’d take a moment to read the label! Another hero runner up because it’s not greasy and I’m loving the smell! (oh and all the products from the brand have brail on the boxes)

However for those that want a general essential skin protector I also keep Ark Skin Essential in my kit. Also a runner up hero because it  is a British natural skin care brand. Their primer is great for location shoots. It’s not greasy and doesn’t leave a white film like some SPFs can do.
