Ripped: Frayed, fringed & tassled.

By Jo Phillips

Rip it, tear it,  fray it and fringe it! This style of decoration has been brought centre stage across the  international shows for A/W through luxurious ripping, fraying and generous embellishment by the likes of Balmain, Ashish and Chanel. Boucle tweed, the most traditional of fabrics, has been taken down a peg or two by Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood and MSGM with frayed edges and asymmetric layering. And we’ve seen Valentino and Roland Mouret use lengths of leather fringing as skirts or over trousers. Knitwear hasn’t escaped either, with Chanel Resort and Isabel Marant having tassle-edging on pretty much everything, with heavily fringed ponchos, the clear stand out piece.
