New York Womenswear A/W 16-17 Highlights

Cent magazine brings highlights from New York Women’s Fashion Week, showing you an array of world class designers for AW16/17.
Reem Acra
Reem Acra’s Autumn/Winter collection oozed sex appeal, fit for the most seductive and mysterious of ladies. Sheer, delicate fabrics detailed with the most beautiful embroidery, featuring Victorian inspired lace throughout the garments and gloves.
Jason Wu
Jason Wu mixed an array of styles and textures to form some of the most elegant looks this A/W. A hint of 80s was shown through electric coloured fur shoulder pads, whilst a predominant 90s influence was shown through relaxed, structural midis and sheer lace slips.
A very romantic collection by Self Portrait, exposing the beauty of winter florals and patchworked lace overlays, as well as incorporating a modern twist by teaming with cropped bombers and smart trousers. Robert Clergerie designed the shoes for Self Portrait this season, extracting styles seen in the 70s such as the stretch suede square heeled boot.
Keeping true to their sporty heritage, Lacoste merged 60s skiwear, whilst featuring the original Lacoste slogans taken from the 70s. A brand which took the center stage with sportwear with their fluent knowledge, showcasing chunky puffers, ribbed knitwear, contrasting sporty stripes, sheepskinned coats with daring elements of vinyl PVC.
KYE
A sense of ‘Clueless’ was brought to the catwalk by Kye, a particularly preppy 90s collection full of colour. Vintage tees were teamed with silk co ordinates, whilst being accessorized with fur trims and fishnets to add some fun glam.
Demoo Parkchoonmoo
A monochromatic colour palette from Demoo, creating a minimal elegance with Asian references. Details included hair sticks, kimono styles, silk knotted belts and heavy wool overcoats.
Showing a mixture of 19th Century textiles, Indian paisley, Venetian pearls and utility wear, all taking a street approach. Each look is individual with a spirited and dynamic feel. The Ghianda handbag collection has been adapted for this collection, featuring Hobos, Saddles and Crossbodys. Finishing off the looks were block heel boots and Mary Janes in matching patterns.
Coach
We had overwhelming feelings of High school nostalgia when seeing Coach’s FW16 collection. The high school and hockey team inspired leather jackets with abstract varsity patches show a toughness that is combined with femininity from the flowing hippy floral layered dresses. We were reminded of the traditional techniques with stitch and seams being shown.
Glitz and glam ruled the Jenny Packham show. Taking inspiration from the 80s and 90s Parisian party scene Packham displayed elegant glistening gowns and shimmering red pieces. Focusing on a time when it was hip to be glamorous, fringed dresses and jackets added another textural dimension to the collection.
Pastels, animal prints and monochrome checker board were featured on fur cuffed coats, woolen blazers and wide leg trousers. Taking pattern inspiration from the 60’s and adapting the shape and style of the clothes, Son Jung Wan’s collection showed a modern twist using a juxtaposing colours and textures.
