Bloom: A Conversation with Trees
By Jo Phillips
FOUNTAIN OF LIFE – ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANEL – 32 X 48 INCHES
To conclude this April and the theme of ‘Bloom’ is a brilliantly blooming exhibition entitled ‘A Conversation with Trees’ by Daniel Blignaut. Rather than employing a representational depiction, the artist uses something almost like an iconographic template to portray trees as a metaphor of the human condition exploring its presence, complexity and majesty over the course of time, environment and climate. What results is a delightful picture that looks closely at the physicality of trees in a dreamy, nostalgic and fascinating way that arouses a burning desire for paradise.
