Bourgeoisie; Foot first
By Jo Phillips
British Fashion Council designers Richard Richard Quinn, Aligheri, Nabil Nayal, Fyodor Golan, Holly Fulton and Osman, have designed their own take on the traditional Christmas stockings for Covent Garden, launching this limited-edition collection of Christmas stockings with all proceeds going to support Crisis. They have been made with offcuts and archive fabrics from previous collections so it has a sustainable angle to it. Richard Quinn’s looks a bit like the little fluffy girls on his last show and Aligheri’s pearl is set to become a hairloom.
Limited edition and totally bespoke for Christmas 2019, each designer has created their own interpretation of the classic Christmas stocking, updating the shape and adding their own embellishment and detail, such as freshwater pearls, floral hand-embroidery, feathers and ruffles. Every stocking created is totally sustainable in design with all elements being taken from offcuts and surplus materials from the designers’ studios and archive prints and fabrics.
One stocking from each designer will contain the very best Christmas gifts from Covent Garden, worth over £1,000, the ultimate gift of a pre-filled stocking. For a donation of £10, shoppers can be in with a chance of winning their chosen stocking, plus a number of unfilled designer stockings will be on sale at £250. All proceeds from the stocking sales and the raffle going to charity Crisis, supporting their important work in helping to alleviate homelessness in London
