Brazen: Invasion of the Blues
By Jo Phillips
Each year Commes des Garçons releases a fragrance for men, using the symbolic ‘pebble’ shape designed by founder Rei Kawakubo. This year however, the CDG team wanted to invade our senses with a trio of scents. Enter, The Blues.
This year’s series of 3 smells was triggered by the discovery that the house really likes 3 particular elements; incense, sandalwood and cedar. The CDG team then approached 3 different “noses” to develop their own interpretations for the range.
Blue Encens, developed by Evelyne Boulanger, is an intriguing fusion of incense and crisp Artemisia, contrasted with cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper, to create an overall feel of incense.
Antoine Maisondeu interpreted Blue Santal as a spicy, musky flavour. Comprising sandalwood, with warm mediterranean pine notes, and blue pepper.
The freshest of the series is Blue Cedrat: a crisp, citrusy scent. Utilising Italian cedar, bitter juniper berries and Angelica roots as well as metallic rose; the result created by Nathalie Feisthauer is almost something you could drink at a sartorial bar.
Exclusive to Selfridges, each of the Blue Invasion series is priced at £75 for 100ml EDP.
