Cent sees Scents
By Jo Phillips
Scents could evoke imageries in our heads; and imageries in our heads could stimulate scents. Such is the reversible relationship that gives rise to an enchanting creative collaboration between two different artists, who work across different medium, but share one vision: the senses.
Matthieu Appriou and Cécile Zarokian’s collaboration seen at Illuminum Fragrant Art Exhibition at Illuminum Lounge
Illustrator Matthieu Appriou and perfumer Cécile Zarokian began this unusual project by taking turns in leading and setting the grounds. Drawing inspiration from each other’s work, the two artists correlated six visuals and six perfumes in perfect harmony: three fragrances were inspired by Matthieu’s illustrations and three illustrations were inspired by Cécile’s olfactory creation. Essentially, each perfume becomes an illustrative scent and the watercolour illustration becomes the image of the perfume. This sensory juxtaposition of scents and visuals stimulates a strong influx of emotions recalling precious memories and priceless moments of the past unique to each and every person on different levels.
