Vivid: African Influences at Heal’s Furniture

By Jo Phillips

In our latest digital issue, the article “Burden to Create”, seen here, identified fresh, upcoming African artists that use their unique culture to tell fascinating stories in an artistic way. This exclusive trend has extended beyond art and into design, specifically for home accessories. The popular furniture company Heal’s has launched an African inspired line called “Design Africa” which brings together a long list of designers, including familiar names, such as Mervyn Gers  (known for his Majolica serveware), along with new creators.

Each home accessory is handmade and reflects the vivid, vibrant nature of both South Africa and the Swaziland. Adornments include blue and white porcelain vessels, created by Lisa Frier- an up-incoming talent, Ngwenya Glass’ stunning white marble glassware, and much more.
