diptyque in Bloom
By Jo Phillips
Flowers, roses especially, are still one of the great ingredients in perfumery. Although they may go in and out of fashion they are what we can easily call a stalwart of scent. Now as we enter late spring flowers are blooming everywhere, but best of all with the Chelsea flower show in London showing now the city is full of flora; Celebrations not just in time for the jubilee but for the flower show and also surely in pure celebration of being able to go out into the world freely again. Why not stop for some tea and perfume whilst out and about?
In celebration of all things floral, diptyque the French fragrance and homewares company has created a pop up in Sloane square London very near to the Chelsea flower show and in true diptyque spirit, the Parisian brand has opened a little space that nods to its Parisian routes in decor but its new British home.
Set on the mainstay of shops this temporary pop up mini boutique is adorned with divine soft apricot- tea coloured roses, in celebration of the area two week period known as Chelsea in Bloom.
The Maison has interpreted this year’s ‘British Icons’ theme for Chelsea on bloom with two British classics. The ‘teatime in roses’ concept plays with the rose, an iconic muse of the Maison, and one of their truly great scents alongside afternoon tea, paying homage to the Thé / Tea candle – one of diptyque’s three original candle creations also an absolute classic.
As with anything that diptyque does, it is a beautiful space. Adorned with a bespoke version of diptyque ’s Boscage wallpaper, which is inspired by the very British Desmond Knox-Leet, one of the three original founders’ early illustrations. he was the genius illustrator behind the visual the brand is so recognised for.
Dotted around find plenty of scents, candles and homewares many in celebration of the good old English cuppa, of course here a little more refined into the concept of the great afternoon British tea tradition. So just for this two week period customers will be invited to enjoy light refreshments, whilst discovering the brand’s floral and gourmand scents.
Very excitingly although this is only a two-week pop up it is there to pave the way for diptyque’s new permanent Chelsea store, set to launch on Sloane Street in October 2022. The new UK flagship, in the heart of London’s luxury shopping destination, will be the largest store in the UK and will house the full brand catalogue, including items from the coveted decoration collection, hosting exclusive events and services.
And as the brand like many is always looking to improve on sustainability remember a great candle can then become a vase or pen holder the quality of the glass means y9u can have it forever not just for one use.
diptyque’s Chelsea in Bloom pop-up will be open from the 23rd May – 5th June 2022. 160 Sloane Street London SW1X 9BT. Monday – Saturday: 10AM – 6PM Sunday: 11AM – 5PM
