Gordon Ramsay Launches ‘The Allotment’ at Bread Street Kitchen
By Jo Phillips
Gordon Ramsay is synonymous with fine dining and the culinary arts. His restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Holdings, has a total of 31 global restaurants and holds an impressive 7 Michelin stars altogether.
Well Ramsay has impressed us once more. Next to the majestic Saint Paul Cathedral, his London based restaurant Bread Street Kitchen has recently launched their amazing summer pop-up, suitably titled the “The Allotment.”
The location is a mixture of a French bistro together with elegant modern design. Fleeing the chaos of the city you find yourself immersed in an allotment with homegrown features – a bid to inspire the constantly busy commuters to grow their own produce with limited space. Kindness and courtesy is what welcomes you as soon as you arrive; waiters and waitresses ready to serve you fresh and appealing cocktails that made you forget the summer stuffy heat outside. The environment? Very lively and entertaining. Many people chatting and enjoying the drinks and the food. After refreshing the throat and the spirit with cocktails, food arrived.
And what food! From botanical rubbed ham and pea and mint consommé to blueberry and Bombay Sapphire cured salmon and Earl Grey and cinnamon chocolate mousse. Everything was an explosion of flavours and freshness. Unlike other events, portions were enough to make everyone happy. They were ready and quick to replace empty plates and glasses. Attention and care was given to everybody without any distinction. When they had time, the waiters were also very willing to help you for any enquiry, or just to entertain you with a nice chat.
But if the sight of fresh fruit and vegetables will make you feel guilty about the plethora of empty take away boxes piling up in your kitchen then there is plenty more for you to discover; A feature greenhouse-inspired private dining area (where guests can enjoy a six course menu paying homage to the humble tomato), a garden shed photo booth and a special kids pizza masterclass on weekends, where children will explore The Allotment, select their own pizza toppings and learn about how produce is grown. Meanwhile, parents can relax with a delicious champagne brunch!
The Allotment will also feature a big screen to show some of the best of this summer’s sporting events including Wimbledon and the Tour de France. So there is literally something for everyone!
