Ischia Bottled
By Charlene Pepiot
You are walking along the beach on Italy’s Ischia island. Sun-kissed sand warms your bare feet as you gaze across the blue water of the Mediterranean sea. Your hands run through the tall stalks of a Spanish Broom plant growing from the cliffside as your eyes move from its yellow buds to the array of different flowers surrounding you. Their floral aroma wafts through the air as you pass. A cool breeze compels the flowers to bob around you, and you thank nature for such exquisite scenery. How wonderful to know this scene has been caught in a bottle. The perfumers at Guerlain have drawn inspiration from such a picturesque landscape and offer a slight taste of its scents and magic within their perfume Nerolia Vetiver. Nerolia Vetiver is the new perfume from the Aqua Allegoria collection by Guerlain. It is a celebration of the island of Ischia and its natural elements. Created by the noses of Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk, the perfume contains over 95% ingredients of natural origin to bring you nature at its purest. As the name suggests, the Nerolia Vetiver is built around the refreshing and clean neroli (orange blossom) fragrance. The scent is highlighted by a woody, grassy, rooty vetiver and refreshed with aromatic basil, complimented by the fruity aroma of fig accord. The variety of fragrances blends together to create a floral allegory of Mediterranean light.
The top notes open up the fragrance with fragrant Basil, alongside vibrant Bergamot, Petitgrain and Lemon. Yet the middle brings fruity earthy green fig accord, alongside floral notes of Orange blossom and Rose. This scent then dives onto its base of majestic Neroli, earthy rooty nutty grass of Vetiver with a final sweep of comfort from white musks.
The perfume is part of Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria collection, which embodies both beauty and sustainability. Aqua Allegoria was brought into existence in 1999 on the belief that the greatest fragrances were ones found in nature. The collection continues to be a celebration of nature and makes a case for its preservation.
With this latest release, the brand highlights its broader approach to bettering the environment. Guerlain and a committee of thirteen sustainable development experts work to encourage the company’s sustainable development actions. The iconic honeycomb top of the bottle encasing the perfume is a signature, whilst the bottles are made with 15% recycled glass.
Guerlain has also been in a partnership with the GoodPlanet Foundation since 2019, whose mission is raising awareness toward protecting bees among younger generations by running a creative and educational space dedicated to showcasing the world of beekeeping. Educating people on the wonders of bees is just one great way of giving back to the bee, who is the original perfumer and warden of the environment.
Guerlain’s connection to bees goes back to the 19th century when they manufactured perfume for Empress Eugénie of France. The bee was the emblem of France during that time.
Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria collection offers you the purest form of nature while helping to preserve it through sustainability. Its Nerolia Vetiver perfume offers a slight glimpse into the sprawling island of Ischia and its floral variety that will captivate you wherever you are.
