Linear – The Radio Times Journey
By Jo Phillips
Happy 90th birthday to the Radio Times!
In honour of their big birthday, the iconic TV and radio listings magazine and coffee table classic have partnered up with the Museum of London to create an exhibition, celebrating 9 decades of art, graphic design and illustration in the media.
Taking you on a journey through television and radio history, see how broadcasting has developed from the BBC’s first ever radio transmission, to Eastenders, to Doctor Who, to today’s multi channel offerings of music videos and reality TV shows. See how Britain’s best loved shows were advertised in the weekly magazine.
‘Some of the most momentous moments from Radio Times’ considerable cannon will be on our walls. That’s not only rather splendid but totally apt as this publication has its roots in London and has been a large part of much of our culture for the past 90 years. No sitting room was without this magazine; it was a weekly ritual to pore over its pages’.
