Why Invest in a Motorhome? Caravan and motorhome sales are up, with a record number of sales taking place during the pandemic. From July 2020 to June 2021, the UK’s National Caravan Council (NCC) reported an 8.25% increase on the previous record set in 2018-2019. Image by Larry12 from Pixabay
The Coronavirus pandemic saw many of us desperate for a break away from home but at the same time, our choice of holiday destination was severely limited. With confusing and ever-changing foreign travel regulations, many chose to stay in the UK for their main holiday, which saw accommodation costs soar.
Despite the easing of restrictions, people are increasingly choosing staycations over vacations abroad. With flight cancellations and long delays at many airports, people are looking for total control over their holiday plans and finding that motorhomes and campervans are the solution. Even younger age groups are discovering the joys of caravanning.
So why is now a good time to invest in a motorhome?
Increased Value
As well as seeing an increase in popularity, motorhomes are seeing a significant increase in value due to global microchip shortages that are impacting new vehicle production. Research from Buy My Motorhome found that the average price of a second-hand motorhome increased by over 13% from 2021 to 2022.
With increasing numbers of people looking to own or rent a motorhome or campervan for UK-based holidays, this means that motorhomes are likely to only increase in value and demand over the coming years.
Higher Demand
Motorhomes, campervans and caravans are seeing higher levels of demand. This means you can make the most of your investment and offset your expenses such as motorhome insurance by renting out your motorhome when it’s not being used.
There are several advantages to renting out your motorhome to other holiday-goers. The main one is that you can use the rental income to pay for the ongoing costs of your motorhome, such as vehicle maintenance any additional income can be set aside to help finance your own travels.
When renting out your motorhome to other individuals, you’re in charge of who you rent it out to and how much you charge as well as any other considerations like a deposit or mileage limit, meaning you stay in control. It also enables you to meet people who share the same passion for travel as you and who knows, you may even make new friends!
The Personal Benefits
Along with the practical, and financial reasons why a campervan makes a great investment, there are lots of personal benefits too.
Freedom and Flexibility
Travelling in a motorhome gives you total freedom and flexibility when you travel. The fact that you’re already in your accommodation means it’s possible to alter your plans at the very last minute and be as spontaneous as you like! So if you’re passing through somewhere beautiful and decide you want to stop and explore further, you don’t need to worry about rescheduling or cancelling train tickets or hotel rooms.
Long-term Savings
Investing in a motorhome can also bring longer-term financial savings. Travelling by campervan is considered a more economical way to travel as it saves money on accommodation such as holiday cottages, villas and hotels, as well as train or flight costs.
Home from Home
Modern campervans, caravans and motorhomes are a far cry from the basic models of the past. They’re designed to be a true home-from-home, with all mod cons and you can equip them with as much – or as little – technology and added extras as you like along with those finishing touches that make it really feel like home. This can make travelling long distances more practical and less daunting.
