Salone Del Mobile

Each year Milan becomes home to the works of some of the most celebrated designers in the world. Salone Del Mobile began as a trade fair for Italian designers in 1961 and has grown to include international furniture, lighting and home accessories designers. Here are some to keep an eye on:
Artemide, in collaboration with some of the most acclaimed designers and architects, will unveil new products and previously celebrated lights. The new collections, The Glass Collection, Reverso Conica, Acoustic Lights and the new Custom range will be on display.
With original and inventive designs that pay homage to the traditional Venetian glass blowing techniques, Wonderglass chandeliers create a hypnagogic atmosphere.
In keeping with the chandelier theme, Slamp created The Chandelier designed by Jacopo Foggini. This impressive chandelier, 4 metres in diameter with colours fading from white into tones of blue is inspired by the original design from the 1930’s by Giovanni Muzio. Slamp are also showcasing nine new collections in their gallery.
2015 marks the second exhibition by Bocci where they will reveal their two new collections. 16 can be suspended in the air, attached to a wall or planted like a tree and uses modular armature that is designed for both indoor and outdoor uses. Made by blowing molten glass into a ceramic fabric shell, 73 has a unique pendant shape and cloud-like appearance.
But it’s not all about lighting, leading quartz surfaces manufacturer, Caesarstone, will reveal their interactive installation Movements by London designer Philipe Malouin. The grand hall of Palazzo Serbelloni will be transformed into a sophisticated playground with 8 swing sets created from the 2015 quartz surface designs hanging from the ceiling. The adjacent rooms houses handmade planters by Malouin.
Spanish furniture designers, CasaDesus and STUA will show their latest in home and office furniture respectively.

Vitra and G-Star Raw have collaborated to bring the best of office comfort, the Prouvé RAW office edition. Jean Prouvé is one of the most important designers of the 20th century and Vitra collaborated with his family to adapt his designs from 70 years ago to modern office standards and requirements. The art directors of G-Star have assisted in developing colours and details.
Inspired by the design and form of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum, Gert-Jan Soepenberg created Vase #2, the second in a series of architecture inspired vases which will be launched at Salone De Mobile.
Marni brings the markets of Bogota, Colombia to Milan with Marni Mercado de Paloquemao, a collection of sculptures and furniture reminiscent of fruits and colours of the markets. This installation welcomes you home to a large table adorned with exotic fruits and hand decorated tin plates, surrounded by new Marni chairs made of metal and colourful pvc weavings.
Marcel Wanders’ giant unicorn, affectionately named Arion will give you an “Unexpected Welcome” at Moooi’s showroom. Through their designs, Moooi aim to make the environment more beautiful and this year they have partnered with Rahi Rezvni to frame their showcase with a selection of his artistic photography. 39 photographs will tower over the exhibition at a height of 4.5m, generating an emotional trip into the mysteries of the human soul. Art Director of Moooi, Marcel Wanders chose Rezvani’s photographs because he believes, like Moooi, they create beauty in an uncommon way.
Yves Behar has designed The Alchemy Lounge, a pop-up bar at Salone Del Mobile in collaboration with Sodastream MIX. With digital interface, App and bluetooth connectivity, the Sodastream MIX will change the industry forever as it can carbonate any type of beverage, from pure fruit juices to alcohol. The pop-up bar will offer patrons the chance to try the liquid experiments of leading mixologists.
Crisbase create unique lighting products that are made from a mixture of traditional and groundbreaking techniques. This is their first year at Salone Del Mobile.
Onecollection has collaborated with DOMICILECULTURE to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Pelican Chair. The Pelican Chair was one of Onecollections most successful re-launch 15 years ago and this year they used Asger Jorn’s “Macbeth” illustration to upholster Finn Juhl’s iconic chair. The re-vamped chair will be revealed this week at Salone Del Mobile.
Salone Del Mobile Milan will run form April 14-19.
