Shangri-La still swinging
By Yasmin Sholgami
Here we all were making more history and celebrating the original hotel Shangri-La Santa Monica, California, on her 75th Birthday. Since 1939, the hotel Shangri-La has been a timeless destination with a modern twist, a home away from home and a secret hideaway to the stars, presidents, artists and writers.
To event was to celebrate the Hotel Shangri-La book which takes us through the past and present of this modern day haven. We found the time to speak with Tamie Adaya the creative director and the power behind celebrating the cultural and historical value of the hotel. She is the dynamic lady that keeps driving it forward, ensuring its not a bland modern hotel but a glamorous home from home. Getting the inside scoop straight from Tamie we spoke to her about the process of making the book, her thoughts behind the renovation of the Shangri-La and of course the ‘grand lady’ that is the hotel on her 75th birthday.

Esteemed fashion photographer Bruce Weber once described as “A home away from home”, The Shangri- La Apartment Hotel and has gone through historical changes and cultural transitions yet maintained and still builds on its reputation as a cultural landmark in Santa Monica.
