Swinging 60’s- Mellor
By Yasmin Sholgami
Our theme this month is ‘Swing’, now what did you think of when you read that? When I think of swing I think of the 60’s. The mods, the rockers, the sensational way in which the music scene changed forever. Now who goes to say that just for this month we can’t go back and appreciate some 60’s inspired tunes. I bring you these tunes from todays equivalent to T.Rex- 3 piece band ‘Mellor‘.
Since forming in 2011, The 3 piece band from Reading have been known to describe their sound as ‘pop-smack’, regularly being compared to bands such as the Libertines, The Beatles and Arctic Monkeys. With their big, brash singles gaining loads of airplay on BBC Radio 6 and Absolute Radio the band are no strangers to Britpop fans around London. Playing regular shows all around the UK and France, with a monthly slot at Carl Barats (Libertines singer) night at the Camden Barfly as well as regular gigs at various BBC introducing stages.
Their new single ‘Ruby Love’ which is out now is so catchy that it can only be described as the type of song that gets stuck in your head (in a good way, of course). You’ll probably be singing it on your commute to work and back from work.
