.SKIN: Knit, Swim, Wear, Skin
Material and skin are a combination which goes hand in hand. From cosy knitwear which bundles around us during the winter, to perfectly moulded swimwear which sticks and moves perfectly against our bodies. This will be explored at The Fashion and Textile Museum, in the form of two retrospective exhibitions exploring the power and influence of knitwear and swimwear in fashion and on the body.
Knitwear: Chanel to Westwood is currently on at the museum, and showcases vintage knitwear from the 20th century. Iconic pieces include a 1920’s Chanel jersey, conceptual garments from Comme des Garçons, and chronicles the influence of art movements, technology and design innovation within knitwear.
Exhibition Dates: 19 September 2014 – 18 January 2015
Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am – 6pm
Thursdays until 8pm
