LC:M HIGHLIGHTS – CONTEMPORARY

We gave you  our quick fix round-ups from the menswear shows and now here is our first official round-up of London Collections: Men featuring designers who offered something contemporary on a base of traditional menswear. Bright colours, daring patterns and modern fits make up the highlights from these exciting brands.

Jonathan Saunders Autumn/Winter 14 Looks

The starkly contrasting venue of London’s Old Sorting Office only made Jonathan Saunders’ striking collection stand out even further. Statement knits and bold outerwear were the highlights here with clothing [and shoes] that featured coloured accents – even classic argyle print and cricket jumpers were far from their traditional forms.

Topman Design Autumn/Winter 14 Looks

Proportion played a big part in this show with oversized outerwear, baggy trousers and short-fitted jackets to contrast. Classic checks were given a modern twist, we saw incredible red and orange knitwear and there was certainly no shortage of PVC as the Topman Design team gave a whole new meaning to the term “slick”.

Casely-Hayford

 Casely-Hayford Autumn/Winter 14 Looks

Oversized knits, contemporary monochrome separates, wooden prints and a somewhat grungy vibe gave this collection its inclusion in our highlights today. There was panel detailing throughout on outerwear and trousers that gave a modern edge whilst the monochrome outerwear presented an almost clinical vibe in bold contrast to the warmer colours in the selection.

Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane Autumn/Winter 14

This menswear collection was positively molecular with DNA strand prints in bold colours and 3D textured knits featuring the same design. Oversized outerwear, navy on black and slick tailoring with stove-pipe trousers were key features here as well as luxurious cashmere pieces in classic roll-necks as well as bold brights.

Richard Nicoll

Richard Nicoll Autumn/Winter 14 Looks

Richard Nicoll ended the shows on the first day with a fresh bang and a contemporary collection for the fashion-forward gentleman. More bright colours and patterns were seen here, which firmly proved that next Winter will never be dismal in terms of attire. We particularly like the cobalt blue separates and the floral prints but even the seemingly demure pieces featured strips of colour or metallic elements that were right up our street.

A. Sauvage Autumn/Winter 14 Looks

This was actually the closing show for London Collections: Men altogether and what a high to go out on. This collection of luxury menswear had both a contemporary and rock’n’roll edge with animal-skin jackets, geometric shapes and bold colours – a collection for the loud and proud gentleman.
