Green Is Good Skin
By Jo Phillips
Now that’s not a phrase you would ordinarily think would be lauded; yeah Green Is Good Skin. But yes you have guessed it; not a reference to the colour green but the ideas of a greener planet and fairer economies. This arena is the biggest change to happen in the beauty industry and it’s going to only get stronger. The consumer will no longer tolerate companies that are purely driven by profit but want brands that care more than just themselves. Where they build from the bottom upwards, brands that care for the environment and also ensure each person in the chain is paid properly. Meet Comfort Zone, the sustainable CO2 neutral skincare range created by the Davines Group. The Davines group is a Certified B Corporation so this is Green is Good Skin; find out more here
Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. We understand now that society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by governments and nonprofits alone, we need brands and consumers to play their part.
By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment. This means ultimately driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
Brands cannot, at this point, get everything right when it comes to green initiatives, but a new white paper signed off recently by the British government will really start to clear up the problem with ‘Green Washing’ where brands dazzle us with ideals that just don’t stand up in the world of caring for the planet.
However, key steps in being green are important for brands to get right and to be honest about what they have managed to get right (and what they still need to improve) for consumers to be able to make informed choices.
Davines is such one B Corp (certification in 2016) company founded, Italy in 1983 by the Bollati Family. Starting out as a research laboratory, producing high-end hair care products for renowned cosmetic companies worldwide. In 1996 they founded [ comfort zone ] skincare for premier spas. The skincare line was further expanded in 2018 with a Skin Regimen offering.
Now the company has just launched their new Sublime Skin range. Coming with solutions to combat signs of ageing throughout different stages of life. The extensive line, with products ranging from active serums to targeted treatments and masks, offers a natural filler solution, for brighter, healthier, and younger-looking skin. With nearly 20 items in the range, there is a comprehensive list to choose from.

Independent laboratory test results show 95% of testers agree the skin feels soft and smooth after use, 90% said the product has a pore defining action, and 90% agree the product improves dull skin.
A hero product is certainly their Sublime Skin Intensive Serum, formulated with biomimetic hexapeptide with a tensor effect, macro hyaluronic acid and an anti-ageing botanical Achillea extract. The skin appears smoother, wrinkles are less visible and facial contours are more defined. Used in combination with Sublime Skin creams, it preserves the skin’s structure for a firming and plumping action resulting in younger-looking skin. The Refill (£72) is designed to reduce CO2 impact and facilitates the recycling of components.
And this recycling part is one key element of the brand’s philosophy. Because Davines partners with Plastic Bank to stop ocean-bound plastic and improve lives. Plastic Bank builds ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities and reprocesses the materials for reintroduction into the global manufacturing supply chain.
In interdependence – which is one of the founding values of the B Corp movement – there is no social sustainability without environmental sustainability, there is no progress without respect for ecosystems and human rights. Without human ecology, there is simply no future. Davide Bollati, Davines Chairman
