Something From Sweden: Fashion

Fashion week with a breath taking and chilly view.

Having spent more than 10 years watching show after show at London Fashion Week, I was curious to follow the footsteps of the Swedish designer Ann-Sofie Back, return to my native country and see what Ann-Sofie, together with many other designers had to offer at Stockholm Fashion Week A/W 2014-15.

Stockholm Fashion Week embraced the nautical theme this year, showing the main catwalks at a rustic old boatyard on the island of Djurgården, where the ice laid thick on the water and the well-heeled guests had to climb stairs and cross tramlines to get to the shows. Tiger of Sweden also made the most of the waterfront and brought their guests to a breathtaking show at a port in the outskirts of the city.

Swedes do smart casual better than most others, knowing how to give their clean cut, minimalistic design, a twist with clever use of details and mix of fabrics, which makes the pieces anything but plain.

Busnel’s designer Marina Keriklidou had taken her imaginative inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s The Steadfast Tin Soldier, MAYLA reimagined the cult classic “A Clockwork Orange” with a palette of deep purples and emeralds, injected with metallic rayon, exposed zippers and the brand Dagmar took their inspiration from the cubist works of Pablo Picasso.

Rookies selected by Swedish Fashion Council, which promote up and coming designers. Wilhja’s fabulous dresses with pleats and frills stood out and I hope to see a lot more of her in the future.
