Throw a music-themed birthday bash
By Jo Phillips
Are you planning a birthday party? If you want to create the perfect celebration for the music lover in your life, why not go with a theme that they’ll love?
Create the perfect setlist for the celebration to create an unforgettable event. To find out how to make this a special experience, here are some tips to help bring everything together.
Plan the gig
Before you get to the creative side of things, you’ll need to get the basics sorted. Decide who you want to invite and let them know the date. It’s important that you give everyone as much notice as possible.
It’s also worth seeing if you can get some help with arranging everything if you can. Whether you rope in family over WhatsApp or have a quick chat with their friends to get an idea of what to include, you could find it’s easier to manage if there are a few of you doing the prep.
Set the stage
Whether you’re having a small party at home or hiring a venue, you can go to town on the theme with music décor. From musical note-shaped balloons and streamers to vinyl records suspended from the ceiling and cassette tapes and CDs as wall art, there are lots of ways to make this theme sing. Pinterest might be a great starting point.
Rock your style
A themed dress code can be fun, especially if your guests commit. Let them know on the invites that disco divas, rock and roll legends, pop stars and hip-hop icons are all welcome.
Alternatively, if you want to narrow your theme to the genre that the guest of honour loves, be sure to give advance notice so that everyone can source their best grungy Gwen Stefani look or locate an oversized band tee.
Musical games
Are you a competitive lot? Games can be perfect for a party. You could go old school with a round of Name That Tune, have a lip sync battle or do some quick-fire, music-themed quizzes covering trivia from across the years and genres.
As well as sticking to the theme, you might want to add in some classics like board games or online versions of popular casino games such as roulette. For younger partygoers, something like Mario Kart could be perfect.
Who’s got talent?
If you have some talented folks at your event, why not get them to be the entertainment? See if anyone wants to show off their guitar skills, whip out the decks for the DJ in your family or let the singers shine with a bit of karaoke.
Mood music
Every party needs a great playlist; a music-themed party needs the best playlist ever. Make sure to include the guest of honour’s favourites, some popular party songs and a mixture from across the years.
