Dreams can be reality, and reality can be a dream; sometimes artistic, fictional, or even non-fictional. Often when people forget to dream, Porsche’s ‘The Art of Dreams’ 7th edition exhibition brings our dreams into a reality, as our senses step into a set of reality mixed with art and technology, where the surreal becomes real, and the future of design is right before the eyes. Porsche ‘The Art of Dreams’ presented its first Capsule Dreamscapes #01 exhibition in Seoul. Seoul, a city of rapid innovation and rich heritage. Dreamscapes #01 brought a multi-sensory exhibition experience to the audience presenting radical art and design. An exhibit that brought ‘state of the art technology’ with the precision of the Korean craftsmanship in Seoul. As we wait for Frieze London, we look back at Frieze Seoul.

Under the overarching theme of “dreamscapes”, artists at the event, explored the the theme by intertwining their art, craft, design and technology. During the art week, Porsche partnered with design platform Capsule to bring art and talent under one roof.

Rather than just being an exhibition, Dreamscapes #01 Seoul was an experience, a dare, to get lost into the virtual set of art, design, and technology symbiosis. Think of metal-glass surfaces, surreal objects, 3D-printed sculptures, and high-tech technology, coming out of creative imagination of artistic mind and blending with the past, present, and future. Porsche’s ‘art of dreams’ exhibition brought the future of craftsmanship by displaying traditional techniques with modern technology, creating new forms of artistic expression.

This modern multi-sensory exhibition presented during Frieze Seoul, drew inspiration from the themes of different dimensions. The displays presented the work of the artistic minds of international artists and South Korean artists who are redefining the purpose of art and design.

Viewers witnessed the work of American digital artist Ezra Miller’s piece of real-time generative video installation, evoking a sense of speed and futurism. Seoul’s favourite designers, Kwangho Lee and Niceworkshop, partnered with FORMAT and explored physical properties of materials through innovative art and texture creations. Along with renowned German-Belgian artist Carsten Höller, known for his participatory work exploring human behaviour, brought his famed Brutalisten kitchen concept to Seoul, interrogating the idea of ‘future food’ and exploring human perception, altered state of consciousness.
Korean artist Koo Jeong created the scent Odorama Cities, which was diffused in the exhibition, portraying modern and contemporary Korean history imbued with olfactory inspiration.

The exhibit was curated by French designers Audrey Large and Theophile Blandet. The event witnessed the launch of The Taycan Turbo K Edition, an all-electric sports car, limited edition, inspired by South Korea. The K-Edition featured five rare exterior colours and two special interior colours edition inspired by Korean history, landscapes, literature and culture which became the highlight of the event blending advanced technology with art of craftsmanship.

Frieze Seoul focused on the interplay between art and technology, and immersed the audience into a dream-like world.
Frieze London will take place from 9-13 October 2024 in Regent’s Park, London. Frieze London 2024 comes with a redesigned set and artist-focused programming called Artist-to-Artist, including Studio at Frieze Masters curated by Sheena Wagstaff and newly coming Smoke curated by Pablo José Ramírez. Frieze Sculpture, curated by Fatoş Üstek, is open to the public from 18 September–October 2024.
In a world where dreams and reality are often blurred, Capsule Dreamscapes #01 brought artists’s dreams to reality in Seoul, a reality often not seen by the public. Frieze Seoul challenged the conventional way of dreaming for the future by introducing radical art and design approach and introducing Korean history, culture, and craftsmanship to the world. Porsche ‘The Art of Dreams’ reminds viewers to nurture the art of dreaming and make dreams possible.
