The best UK road trips for 2025
By Jo Phillips
Road trips are an exciting adventure for all ages. Not only can you experience lots of different places, but you can do it all at your own speed. The UK is a vast and varied island with mountains, lakes, forests and cliffs to inspire all travellers. Why not make a UK road trip one of your 2025 goals? Here are some of the best road trips to tempt you.
The North Coast 500
Perhaps one of the most iconic routes in the UK, the North Coast 500 is the best way to see what the rugged north of Scotland has to offer.
This road trip is ideal for motorhome owners or keen campers as there are numerous campsites and scenic layovers for you to enjoy. Highlights of the trip will include Bealach na Bà pass, John O’Groats and Dunrobin Castle.
If you do decide to pack up your motorhome and head north, remember to get it checked over before you leave. Having a fully functional vehicle as well as comprehensive motorhome insurance is the key to being able to relax on the trip.
The Atlantic Highway
At the opposite end of the UK is the Atlantic Highway. Running along the A39, this beautiful route showcases the best aspects of Devon and Cornwall. Keep an eye out for golden beaches, picturesque fishing villages and the classic rolling countryside.
One place you must stop is Padstow. This village plies its trade as a fishing port and has done so for many years. Here you can experience a traditional Cornish pasty from Chough Bakery, which is arguably the best pasty shop in the whole county! The perfect lunch after a morning learning to surf.
The Yorkshire Dales
Yorkshire is known as God’s Own Country for its incredible natural beauty. Nowhere quite highlights the breathtaking scenery like a drive through the Yorkshire Dales. If you are on the lookout for a peaceful and nature-filled road trip then this is the place for you.
For Harry Potter fans a drive to Malham Cove will be a hit. The area was famously used in the seventh film, and the magic is still alive for visitors. From here, Ribblehead Viaduct calls and is the perfect place for a scenic picnic.
Similar to the Scottish route, driving through the Dales offers you plenty of places to camp and enjoy the view. Motorhome owners and campers will always be able to find a place to pitch up, but it is worth booking early during busy periods.
Causeway Coastal Route
Sometimes when the road calls you simply have to book some time off for a long road trip. The Causeway Coastal Route is 120 miles long and stretches between Belfast and Londonderry.
Driving this route will allow you to see some of Northern Ireland’s most incredible landmarks and landscapes, including the world-famous Giant’s Causeway. Dunluce Castle and Ballintoy Harbour are also sights to look out for and make great places to stretch your legs.
