Your Skin is the Best Protection
By Jo Phillips
There is so much hype in this day and age about how our faces should look, all the steps we should be taking and the lotions and potions we should be applying; it’s exhausting. But don’t forget that your skin is the best protection you already have so don’t overdo it and find a simple but great and effective product, not twenty layers of potions, PLEASE. Find out more in Your Skin is the Best Protection.
The fashions and fads that fill our pages on social media are not just disturbing but are also potentially harmful.
Much of the science behind a lot of these new trends comes from research into things like acne, skin burns, cancer sufferers and other serious medical issues. This is wonderful but the reality is that if you don’t have these problems should you be using some of these very strong products?
Never forget our skin has a natural PH balance of 5.5, very slightly acidic which naturally helps to protect against bacteria. This acidity helps maintain the balance of natural oils and protects against harmful bacteria.
It also maintains moisture because a healthy PH level helps maintain the skin’s moisture balance. A healthy PH level helps prevent irritation, allergies, and infections.
PH stands for “potential hydrogen,”, It refers to how acidic a skin substance is. Everyone’s skin has its own PH, and bringing yours into balance can go a long way toward achieving healthy skin.
The PH level such as using a leave-on AHA or BHA exfoliant whose PH is 3.6 or lower i.e. acidic or a mineral sunscreen with a PH of 7.5 or greater i.e. alkaline can cause significant disruption to the skin’s PH for the short or longer term. The skin will repair itself but it can take longer, the more the damage. Now just think if you are using one or more of these on your skin once or twice a day…
If your PH balance is off and it’s too alkaline, your skin is going to look flaky and red. If it’s too acidic, you’ll increase your chances of inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and acne.
Our skin is after all there to protect us, so it can only be good to treat it kindly back. So if you feel you can cut back on your 20-step regime a good starting place is to have products that are also balanced at a PH of 5.5 and by doing this you are being kinder to what essentially is your first layer of defence, your own skin.
The trend for ‘glass skin’ is a somewhat worrying trend. This look comes about usually from literally taking off the top layers of skin, yes a form of exfoliation, but one that goes way too far. Think of it akin to exposing your most soft raw skin. We have a dead layer for a reason, protection. There is a huge difference between this ‘glass skin’ and good ‘clear skin’
Now that we live in a world of AI many of us have truly unrealistic standards of what our skin should look like; this can deeply affect wellbeing too.
Yes, we want to be clear of blemishes, an even surface texture, no visible pores, and less congestion. And wouldn’t it be nice to have all this with one step and by not using products that either add acid or alkaline to our tender faces?
Spa and skincare company TempleSpa has just brought to market a serum with the abilities for all the above wishes but one that is set at 5.5 PH, which means it’s a more gentle approach to clear skin.
Firstly it’s an all-in-one product. The new ‘CLEAR TO ME ‘ serum contains several actives usually only found in sets of different lotions and potions. It is in one simple bottle, one simple step with multiple abilities.
CLEAR TO ME skin clarifying serum expertly combines the most iconic skin-clearing actives not normally found in the same product with refreshing Mediterranean botanicals and essential vitamins and minerals to bring your skin back into balance, and fast.
Using the latest innovative technology, it is formulated to clear up your complexion however needed: rapidly targeting and preventing blemishes, reducing redness & refining skin texture, while mopping up excess oil and minimising the appearance of oversized pores.
The cornerstone is its three-pronged approach: The Power Of Three
One Prebiotics, Postbiotics & Hyperactives Powerhouse BHA salicylic acid is joined by microencapsulated retinal & niacinamide to rapidly target and prevent blemishes, reduce redness & refine skin texture. Prebiotic willow herb extract provides a mattifying effect as it nurtures and maintains the skin barrier. Adenosilane is an advanced pore-refining complex which also combats excess oil.
Two Mediterranean Botanicals Skin-calming Mediterranean date oil keeps the skin hydrated and prevents it from drying out with essential fatty acids. Olive fruit oil helps to lift up and break down dirt & skin impurities and waxy substances on the skin.
Three Vitamins & Minerals Antioxidant vitamin E and a mineral complex of zinc, magnesium, manganese & sodium are joined by a highly stable form of vitamin C from kakadu plum to brighten skin, keeping it crystal clear and encouraging long-term skin health
How to use it and when? A great choice for oily or problem skins. Firstly for best results use it at night, because while you are resting your body is busy working to heal itself, so that’s why use at night is more effective.
The products have of course been tested with very favourable results. Your skin is your built-in best friend so treat it gently with love and kindness by using appropriate and need 90% of those trialling it showing improvement in only four weeks.
After cleansing & toning, apply 1-2 drops into your palm and massage into the face using circular, upward motions. Follow with your favourite moisturiser. It can also be applied directly to blemishes and areas of concern. However, if you do have relatively healthy skin use it a couple of times a week or every other night for an appropriate approach.
Never forget your skin is an inbuilt best friend, treat it with love, respect and the kindest products you can.
