What is the very opposite of the serious education grounds known as a ‘lecture hall’? According to these festival organisers, it is the pub! Aiming to make science fun and accessible to all and to demystify what happens in the laboratories of top UK scientists is Pint of Science, which is to hold 45 events featuring 75 speakers across 15 pubs in 3 cities over 3 nights this May. ‘We are bringing science out of labs, seminars, lecture halls or classrooms to a place where everyone feels comfortable voicing their opinion over a pint,’ states the organisers.

The event includes talks, myth-busting games and musical performances. Topics in discussion range from the inner-workings of the body to the brain to biotechnology. For once, enjoy learning concrete answers to challenging questions often asked by annoyingly curious children, such as why identical twins are different, how and why we sleep, why teenagers think so differently to adults as well as what makes us laugh and why.
The Festival takes place in London, Oxford and Cambridge from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 16th May 2013. Visit pintofscience.com for free tickets.
