Bold: SEE USSR by GRAD
By Pascal Ebner
The Gallery for Russian Arts and Design presents their most recent exhibition on Russian propaganda posters. This selection of pictures aims to show a different side of USSR – a country of comfort, leisure and luxury. The Western image of the communist land becomes blurred and shows a tourist haven. Unexpected yet stunning.
The posters in Art Deco Style were produced by gathering funds through foreigners that were desperately needed for the industrialization. Additionally, the exhibition will be opened with a seminar led by speakers in respective fields.
Most of the posters shown in the exhibition were created in the 1930s, designed and crafted by artists such as Aleksandr Zhitomirsky, Nikolay Zhukov or Aleksandr Froloff. Most of the publications will be made available as limited edition prints and can be purchased on site. Besides mentioned artworks, books and other miscellaneous objects can be purchased.
The exhibition “SEE USSR” can be seen from now on till 1 September at the GRAD: Gallery for Russian Arts and Design on 3-4A Portland Street in London.
