Wordly; Sound-Speaker with an Architectural Twist
By Dean Frankling
Master & Dynamic are back at it again with renowned architect Sir David Adjaye. Well known within the architectural world, Adjaye built the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management.
His architectural style is one that he describes as a narrative experience, not just a viewing one. The designs are inspired by and derive from his chilhdood experiences of travelling. He developed a kind of cultural sensitivity and thus his designs, particularly that of the African American History and Culture museum, employ his exposure to African culture.
Other creative collaborations from Master & Dynamic include American tattoo artist Scott Campbell, who has worked on big Hollywood stars including Robert Downey Jr., Orlando Bloom and Courtney Love; Japanese fashion designer Motofumi ‘Poggy’ Kogi, the creative director of UNITED ARROWS & SONS, and YouTube. Master & Dynamic are keen to engage with creative people outside their own company and from all walks of life.
This collaboration with Adjaye, however, offers something more than just a simple sound-speaker. Like everything in the world, businesses and products are evolving and changing. Master & Dynamic, while a simple audio brand, is not letting conventional designs dominate its collection of products.
As the world adapts to new and exciting things, Master & Dynamic is demonstrating how unique and innovative products – no matter how unconventional a collaboration with an architect might be – are necessary to stay relevant and stay original.
The company was founded by Jonathan Levine as a premium audio brand. Their key principles are the rejection of convention and the promotion of technical innovation. Having only been established in 2014, they are fairly new to the market but they have attained commercial prominence in over five-hundred partner stores and, like all successful businesses, continue to grow.
The MA770 is in keeping with Master & Dynamic’s traditional approach, combining their signature sound with superior production-quality. The synthesis of an audio company with an architect can only produce something truly unconventional, alternative and above all refreshingly novel. This is the MA770. Its main feature is its propriety concrete composite, signifying of the architectural roots of the collaboration.
Master & Dynamic’s MA770 is the company’s first speaker and it is certainly not the last. Prepare for more technical innovation and more offbeat collaborations. The world demands it, and Master & Dynamic are going to bring it.
