Calm Before the Fashion Week Storm
By Jo Phillips
As London Fashion Week creeps up on us in its Manolo’s, brands are competing for the spotlight with collection releases that will get us all on our feet even before the LFW shows start.
September 6th saw the launch of the COS Soma Capsule collection, an array of must-have essentials that embodies the nature of the brand whose aesthetic values and traditional craftsmanship exude all that timelessness necessary for the foundation of every wardrobe.
JW Anderson has also jumped onto the capsule collection bandwagon, with NET-A-PORTER launching the exclusive collection on September 15th. This is the first of its kind for JW Anderson with Jonathan Anderson capturing 19th century British Aestheticism through pieces ranging from ready-to-wear, shoes, bags and accessories that feature prints from designer Christopher Dresser, Architect EW Godwin, tied together by the ethos represented by Oscar Wilde’s “beauty as a form of Genius”. This collaboration with NET-A-PORTER gives rise to the exclusivity of purchasing from the collection immediately after the SS19 runway show on Saturday September 15th.
The brand that also went about it similarly is Kenzo, who will prescribe to a format of ‘see-now, buy-now’ in February 2019 as part of its next steps of development for ‘La Collection Memento’, introduced in 2017 with the goal of reinventing the Maison’s archives over the past 50 years.
Lastly, hailing from the historic town of York, creator Matty Bovan began his relationship with Coach in 2016, customising their icon bags that featured in his shows for 3 seasons under the Fashion East collective. This time, the two have again come together for a special collaborative effort in which the Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers reimagines and reintroduces the interpretation of the iconic logo print bags that are uniquely customised by Bovan. The limited-edition bags will be available from Friday 14th September under the Moniker COACH x Matty Bovan, solely available through Matchesfashion.com and in their new 5 Carlos Place Mayfair townhouse that opened its doors this September 3rd. A new addition to the 3 physical stores and online website, this brilliant new retail concept occupying over 5 floors of a townhouse in Mayfair uses a mix of digital and tangible interactions that offers a most singular encounter to customers, whilst providing the ultimate shopping extravaganza.
