Fantasy: Lost in Floral Impressions
By Jo Phillips
Flowers have always created an impression in the creative world of fashion, music, art, architecture, literature, etc. In our latest issue, The Heartbeat Issue, guest-edited by perfumer Jo Malone, flowers play the central character in two editorials alone: the Hot House Flowers fashion and beauty shoot and Pure White. Flowers are captured in a bottle in the first editorial and released via the floral fashions of the season; while the latter showcases perfumer and ‘Master of White Flowers’ Jean Claude Delville’s favourite white flowers.
For Spring/Summer 2014, flowers are the key inspiration for luxury French shoe and bag designer Christian Louboutin. To showcase the everlasting impression of flowers, Louboutin has collaborated with photographer Peter Lippmann to create a visual representation of its fragranted theme for Spring/Summer 2014. Lippmann has re-imagined the fantasy world of seven impressionist artists by juxtaposing Louboutin’s crafted creations in masterpieces by Brueghel, Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet, Henri Fantin-Latour, Paul Cézanne, and Vincent Van Gogh. The result is a series of lively picture-perfect scenes that combine art with fashion.
