Misty Mornings

There are a lot of hydrating ‘mists’ on the market right now.  So in this Misty Morning article, I’ve tried to highlight the difference between a spritzing toner and an ‘all day, every way’ hydrating mist. A little spray of simple joy can lift your spirits.

I never used to enjoy ‘spritzing’ my face.  I didn’t like the anticipation of holding my breath; squeezing my eyes shut and sucking my lips in. Only to then be hit in the face by what felt like a bucket of water – as if I was in an internet challenge. 

But funnily enough, I love them now because of one small change. The nozzle.  It’s as simple as that!  Now, a genteel mist caresses my facial features instead of a liquid ‘spurting’ at me.  Using a mist now brings a smile to my face instead of a grimace. Here are a few (plus brand heroes) of my ‘Misty Morning’ favourites.

Ark Skincare Hydrating Beauty Mist is an ‘all day every way’, (ADEW) treatment, this was my first venture into misting.  And now living in my fridge (sorry Ark if that’s not recommended) it feels so good during hot days or hot flushes.  Wild Water Mint, Aloe Vera and Allantoin soothe and calm skin. Biossance Squalane and Hyalorinic Toning Mist are also an ‘ADEW’. Their squalane is derived from sugarcane which mimics the skin’s natural oils to give weightless and seamless hydration. Neal’s Yard Reviving White Tea Facial Mist is discerningly different from its toners — which target different skin conditions.  An ‘ADEW’ mist with antioxidant-rich white tea helps counteract the effects of pollutants. Plus cooling organic aloe vera is refreshing on the go. Espa Hydrating Floral Spa-Fresh Mist is a hybrid between a toner and an ‘ADEW’ mist. Enriched with essential oils and flower waters to refresh your bare skin or made-up face. Rose Damascena hydrates and Honeysuckle Flower Extract soothes and protects.

The 100% natural hybrid Evolve Daily Defense Moisture Mist is a protective facial mist. It includes prebiotics that helps strengthen and balance the skin’s microbiota protecting it against pollution.  Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner was my first spray toner.  Initially, I used it traditionally by spraying it onto cotton wool and then wiping it across my face. But suddenly I realised how much the cotton wool absorbed. That’s when I started to spritz it directly on my face to absorb its undiluted strength.  Now I can’t remember the last time I applied toner on a cotton pad.
