The Season of Giving
By Jo Phillips
If November is your month of choice to go alcohol-free but you’ve yet to decide where and how to give your saved cash to charity, why not take a look at these three events that are happening soon? Each event represents a different cause and, even if you cannot attend them, maybe this short piece will help further your research.
The first of these events is the Collar and Coats Gala Ball, a fun occasion that is hosted by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home on 3rd November. Renowned for is and VIP guests entertainment, the gala is the eighth to be hosted by the Home. Founded in 1860 by Mary Tealby, the charity has a rich history in which it has cared for over 3.1 million animals. You can read all about its past here and donate here.
The second event also benefits from well-unowned guests, this time from the art world. On 17th November, the Hepatitis C Trust’s Art on a Postcard annual auction will take place at London’s Maddox Gallery. Acclaimed contemporary and street artists will come together to display their postcard-sized work, available to be viewed from 12th November, in order to help the elimination of Hepatitis C. By 2030, the Trust hopes to have eradicated the virus and auctions such as this one will provide immense aid. More information, along with a list of contributing artists can be found here.
Although not a specific event, this final piece is rather a collaboration. Contemporary womenswear brand Three Floor recently unveiled looks at London Fashion Week which have been adapted into a capsule collection in partnership with the UN Women Nation Committee UK. You can pre-order any of the six dresses until 30th November, with 20% of the proceeds going towards a brighter future for gender quality. Inspired by revolutionary dancers Loïe Fuller and Isadora Duncan, the Three Floor collection embraces the femininity of the past whilst injecting modern influence. The collection is currently available to pre-order here.
