The Simple Outset of Self-Love
By Sana Joseph
Just too much! A few years ago the beauty industry was encouraging women to do so many steps that the daily regime seem to become a trawl. Now the rising popularity of self-care practices, women have started viewing skincare routines as an act of self-love, rather than a mere beauty ritual. Over the years, the beauty industry has been continuously working towards promoting more realistic beauty standards, empowering many women to embrace their uniqueness without feeling pressured to conform to societal norms. This shifting beauty paradigm is thanks to the increasing emphasis on self-care and embracing one’s natural beauty. Read more on The Outset of Simple Self-Love
Many of us have seen the renowned actress Scarlett Johansson in films and marvelled over her beauty, but what may not be so well known is that she struggled with bad skin for many years. However, it was her own personal journey that inspired her to take matters into her own hands.
Self-love includes not just the attention we give to our body and mind, but also to our dreams and aspirations. For many, this may include the dream of starting their own business. Such dreams should be pursued with as much intentionality and care as our journey of self-love.
Skincare has had a significant impact on women over the years, both in terms of beauty standards and self-expression. Throughout history, various cultural, societal, and technological changes have influenced women’s attitudes towards skincare, beauty, and self-care. In today’s digital era, there is an abundance of beauty experiences online, ranging from tutorials and product reviews to skincare communities, making it essential for everyone to identify their own simple skincare routine.
It is against this backdrop that renowned actress Scarlett Johansson embarked on a new venture, partnering with entrepreneur and beauty industry executive Kate Foster Lengyel, to establish The Outset, a consciously clean skincare brand.
Combining her passion for skincare with her desire to create something real and intimate for others. After years of struggling with acne and skin sensitivities, Scarlett discovered the power of a gentle, simple, and consistent skincare routine to bring her skin back into balance.
Scarlet and Kate were in constant talks with each other on what their brand ethos should be, or what they stand for. With a passion for creating a brand name that rhymes with authenticity and something real that people can rely on they together planted the seeds of Outset.
This overcomplicated self-care routines and the rise in skin sensitivity in the broader markets is how Scarlett realized that there was a need for a reliable line of essentials that was clean, effective, and designed to elevate the everyday for everyone.
With this vision in mind, she decided to step back from beauty endorsement deals and build a business around an idea she believed in. Scarlett established The Outset with a mission to provide gentle skincare with powerful results, revealing radiant skin while nourishing the skin barrier.
Scarlet introduced the 3-Step Barrier Reset regimen. This simple routine consisted of cleansing, prepping, and moisturizing the skin every day. The brand aimed to make skincare as effortless as slipping on a favourite white tee, empowering individuals to embrace their skin journey and begin again, no matter where they were in their skincare routine.
One of the key aspects of The Outset’s philosophy was being consciously clean. Their products were vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, gluten-free, nut-allergen-free, clinically, allergy-tested, dermatologist-tested, and suitable for sensitive skin. The brand prioritized the health of the skin and aimed to support the skin’s moisture barrier.
The emergence of beauty brands, like Scarlett Johansson’s, has paved the way for women to embrace their own simple skincare journey. Scarlett Johansson’s journey from a successful actress to a skincare entrepreneur not only brought her personal satisfaction but has paved the way for others to take a kind and simple route themselves.
