Drink Clean, Love Waking Up Fresh and Ready
By Jo Phillips
‘I don’t want to wake up feeling bad, I want to go clubbing, dance the night away, drink cocktails and go home in a happy high. But tomorrow I want to celebrate my sister’s birthday without feeling rough’ she said. ‘Well‘, he said ‘Why don’t you drink cleanly‘? ‘Drink cleanly’ she said ‘What’s that’? ‘Well if you love your cocktails but don’t want to feel bad the next day then try CleanCo‘ he explained. ‘Drink a clean G&T, a Margarita an Old fashioned?? No alcoholic effects post a night out just a clear head‘. ‘Perfect she oozed, ‘tell me more’. If you don’t drink alcohol or want to slow down then there is actually a great option. Not a ‘one flavour botanical’ non-alcoholic general offering but a wide range of alternatives that can be used to make your favourite long drink, cocktail or even sipping treat. Have your favourite tipple without the hangover. Whether it be a Gin style Whiskey style Tequila or Vodka style, the choice is yours. Just as Champagne cannot be called by the name Champagne, if it is not made in the Champagne region, so it is for other drinks, with their own set of rules.. It’s a similar rule for spirits Gins, Tequillas, Whiskies, Vodkas and Rums. Some rules have to be adhered to in order to call certain alcohols by their names. So if they run amock of those rules, then they cannot be called by traditional names.
So when you have a low-alcohol or non-alcoholic drink what on earth do you call it? Well up until now not a lot really just low/non-alcohol drinks because it’s either a beer wine or something general in way of non-distinct ‘spirit’. The idea of a specific non-alcoholic drink just didn’t exist. If you wanted a non-spirit Margarita, let’s be honest there wouldn’t be much in your glass except for a bit of lime, salt and ice, and possibly a bit of some rather vague botanical idea of what something with a kick should taste like.
If you choose not to drink spirits for a variety of reasons and there are many, the idea of either replacing a loved G&T or favourite cocktail has just not been an option. Because the options just were rather poor. As well as the fact that you can’t just call anything Gin.
So CleanCo has sidestepped this issue by referring to their gin-style drink as Clean G as well as Clean T Clean R and Clean V. Because they have not just made one version of a non-alcoholic drink they have made a bar-full.
At the end of the day, it’s no good having a drab one-size-fits-all option, when your taste buds crave a G&T it’s a G&T you must have sans alcohol, not a wishy-washy non-spirit alternative.
Partnering with Union Distillers, renowned botanical and distillation experts, CleanCo set out to create a whole range of alcohol-free spirits that would cater to those seeking a cleaner and healthier lifestyle, or for those who choose for other reasons not to drink alcohol.
So these spirits are created similarly with botanicals, distillation etc giving the sense of your favourite spirit but Clean. Also never forget that alcohol is fattening but these come in at a very friendly 10 calories per 1.5 ounce serving. Also, they contain no gluten or sweeteners but do contain glycerin that gives a sense of ‘body’ to each spirit.
The Clean Co lineup includes Clean G, Clean G Rhubarb and Clean G Pink, for gins styles as well as Clean R (rum) Clean T (tequila) Clean V (vodka) and Clean W (whiskey). The very point is to be able to expertly mimic the sensation expected from a favourite tipple.
If you check out the website there is a generous list of suggested cocktails and tall drinks as good options to mix up.
A collection of different taste profiles so that you could have your G&T but it would be a CleanCo G&T or a CleanCo R and Coke. Think of a CleanCo Margarita or a CleanCo Old fashioned.
Never feel left out at the party, enjoy any amount of cocktails still have fun but go home with a clear head. Or if you don’t drink alcohol no you don’t need to be reduced to a juice or bad ‘mocktail’
‘Wow,’ she said, I love the sound of these so where do I get them from’?
CleanCo is available to buy from its website Clean.co Here but is also available in many bars restaurants and major supermarkets.
