The Fashion Side Of The Olympics
By Chiara Orsi
The summer gone was full of sports fever, France held the Olympics and Paralympic games a joy to see the creative efforts of humans against in other in the best show of human endeavour and connections. This set of games that have its roots in the islands of Greece is a site to behold. Love the Olympics and the spirit that comes with it? Once every four years this spectacular happens. Are you in mourning on having to wait another four years until the next one in Los Angeles? Worry not we have a little collaboration to keep us going…
Don’t rush to leave France yet, since the historical French Maison S.T. Dupont is about to launch a brand new collection partnering with Casablanca, inspired right from the traditional Greek Olympic Games.
The two well-known French brands, S.T. Dupont and Casablanca, both specialised in luxury production, have united for the enhancement of antiquity and heritage revisiting it in a contemporary perspective, drawing inspiration from the Olympic’s ancient history and vibrant spirit.
And so, on September 16th, a capsule collection will be released featuring a selection of lighters, writing instruments, cigar humidors and leather goods that combine modernity and tradition.
The concept behind the collection is that of celebrating the “Art of Sport”, enhancing the beautifulness and elegance of sport in a neo-antique collaboration and what better emblem of sportsmanship than the centenary Olympic Games.
Symbol of tradition, dedication, union and ancient history, the Olympics’ vibrant energy is capable of uniting people together. In the same way, since 1872, the historical Maison S.T. Dupont bases its pillars on heritage and on its unique savoir-faire, creating products designed to be collected and passed down from father to son.
On the other hand, Casablanca, founded in 2018 by Charaf Tajer, has established the new concept of high-end après-sport, combining luxury and sportswear, and constantly keeping an eye on the future.
Here is where tradition and modernity, luxury and leisurewear meet. As mentioned, the capsule collection pays homage to antiquity by drawing inspiration from Greek culture.
Indeed, the majesty of Hellenic architecture is represented by the square-shaped mosaics that, in turn, recall the lines of a tennis field, an element that refers to the traditional Olympic Games.
Moreover, the choice of modern lines and patterns accompanied by the bright colour palette breaks traditional canons in a bold and contemporary way, maintaining continuity with Casablanca’s Autumn-Winter 2024 collection. Conclusively, the collection is embellished with gold-coloured details and finishes, which contributes to completing its preciousness.
The capsule collection consists of three principal lines, entitled “Tennis”, “Mosaic” and “Leather Goods”.
Being tennis a distinctive trademark of Casablanca, the first line of the collection has been entitled to the racquet sport. It comprehends a selection of lighters, cigar humidors and ashtray decorated with mosaics with geometric lines, typical of Hellenic architecture. A reference to tennis is given by the tennis players illustrated in a mural “inspired by the profiles of athletes on Panathenaic amphorae and ancient ceramics”.
Protagonist of the second line is the mosaic, ancient ornamental technique, core element of Casablanca’s identity, realised for this collection by S.T. Dupont’s artisans and craftsmen. This line includes accessories, Slimy, Biggy and Line D of the Eternity pen, made in a mosaic pattern and mosaic guilloche, embellished with transparent lacquering.
The third line is dedicated to leather goods, being both brands specialised in leatherwork, and it comprehends cigar pouches, document holders, cigar cases and pen cases, all characterised by a brightly coloured geometric pattern that resembles the tennis court shape.
That being said, the collection in its whole aims to celebrate the tradition of craftsmanship and the excellence of the two Maison’s know-how. However, it is also committed towards reinventing traditional tailoring and revolutionising designing codes, playing with patterns and artisanal techniques, and pushing the boundaries to create brand new canons of luxury.
This collection is challenging, strives for innovation and excellence in craftsmanship, experiments unexplored territories and it is the perfect combination between tradition and modernity.
So, if you want to keep experiencing the Olympics emotions, just keep an eye on S.T. Dupont‘s flagship stores.
