Diet Control
By Jo Phillips
With lockdown orders keeping many millions of people indoors, weight gain and comfort eating is becoming more and more common. Unfortunately, increasing your food intake or eating more unhealthy foods can have a disastrous effect on your physical and mental wellbeing, and it’s vital that you can recognise your bad habits and make a positive change. Luckily, it needn’t be as difficult as you might expect to take back control of your diet to upgrade your daily food intake to new nutritious heights. So, if you would like to find out more, then read on to uncover some of the best tips and tricks that you can make the most of now!
Switch From White To Brown
One of the best decisions that you can make to upgrade your diet is to switch from white to brown foods. Popular carbohydrates such as bread, rice and pasta come in several different forms, with brown generally being far more healthy and natural than their white counterparts. Wholemeal seeded bread has far much more protein and fibre compared with an artificial white loaf, whilst brown rice is said to be far easier to digest, having a lower calorific value too. It’s also said that sweet potatoes contain far more vitamins and minerals than simple white potatoes, so this is a great swap to make. Brown foods also help you to stay fuller for longer, as energy is released at a much slower rate compared with the unstable blood sugar spikes associated with white foods.
Pimp Up Your Salads
Attempting to consume a full plate of plain salad is going to be as enjoyable as chowing down on the plants that occupy your garden, so it’s vital that you can pimp up your salads to make them taste delicious. There are so many ways that you can transform the taste of your salad without making it unhealthy, as ‘normal’ options like mayonnaise and bacon should be a no go. The best place to start is with a dressing, as there are so many different flavour combinations and ingredients that you can explore to pimp up your salad like never before. There are so many recipes that you can utilise to make your own dressing at home, but you can also find many that are ready made for convenience. Adding something like MCT oil or something similar can boost your salad in several ways. Always aim to include as many colours as you can as you eat with your eyes before you even taste the dish, and experiment with textures and both cooked and raw fruit and vegetables inside your salads.
Say Goodbye To Caffeine
Caffeine can stop your body from absorbing the nutrients inside the food that you consume, as well as encouraging food cravings, mood swings and even low blood sugar crashes. Avoiding caffeine is a brilliant way to upgrade your diet, as you’ll begin to notice the energy that you get from a nutritious meal or a long sleep rather than seeking out an artificial source.
