For Yourself

By Jo Phillips

The Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778) was a botanist, zoologist, and physician who formalised binomial nomenclature, the modern system of naming organisms. He is also known as the “father of modern taxonomy”. Wellness is a term used to explain the active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth.

Why would we mention both of these in the same paragraph? Well, because of a new wellness centre just opened called Linnaean, named with a nod to this famous man. It is a truly definitive one-stop-shop for wellness in London’s newest vibrant and developing neighborhood.

Linnaean is a wonderful space near the American Embassy that feels light, open and inviting. Like a ‘best of’ space, it is curated to offer the best in wellness and beauty, alongside dining, cocktails and, of course, some shopping. The cornerstone of this retreat is to offer to urban dwellers the best, most up to date developments in hair, beauty, relaxation and self-care.

Linnaean is built to offer advanced bio-science beauty and high-spec beauty tech, the biggest area of growth in the beauty industry – offers like HydraFacial + Light Therapy, Elite BTL (an Instant Lift and Remodel Facial), Light Peel Refresh + Recovery Mask + LED Light Facial, Microdermabrasion + Oxygen Infusion + LED Light Facial, Medical Grade Microneedling Facial and more. They also offer the classics in hair, nail, and beauty treatments, like eyes and brow treatments, facials, waxing and much more. The hair salon looks to offer the expected as well as the unexpected, it will look to champion innovations within the hair arena.

Alongside this, the whole strategy goes a big step forward. On the ground floor is an exquisite restaurant with a cocktail bar, with breakfast, lunch and dinner on offer, and even a cake selection. The offer is a heavily plant-rich based diet that changes seasonally. The head chef, Fran Winberg, devised the menu to offer a great breadth of choice to suit vegan, flexitarian, gluten-free and dairy-free dining preferences, so there is something for every need.

The heavily personally curated shop offers brands like Suzanne Kaufmann (as they offer her treatments here), Dr. Barbara Sturm (treatments of hers are also available) and other truly unique one-off brands within wellness and beauty all of which have great green and sustainable ethics. After all, wellness is not just about how we look after ourselves it also includes our responsibility to our home and our planet.

The flagship space is located as mentioned in Embassy Gardens, a central riverside development across the river from Chelsea and Pimlico, by the New Covent garden market and near the Battersea power station development.

But one other thing that really stands out is the visual of the place. Don’t think dark rooms, hushed tones and general non-inviting environment.

Walk into the ground floor to be meet by baby pink and wicker seats, flowers hanging from the ceiling, all set off by softest, lightest dirty-green walls. Light floods in, so sitting down to eat becomes a brasserie experience rather than a wellness ‘space’. It’s calm and inviting: the kind of place where popping in for a cocktail is just as acceptable as going in for a treatment. There is a gentle sense of pleasure that the whole space exudes.

We set up Linnaean to help navigate modern living and promote health and happiness,” says founder Elena Tayleur. “Contemporary life is filled with negative as well as positive disruption. We go through constant changes that can herald both opportunity and overload. We help our guests to keep up, while keeping balanced.”

Linnaean’s approach to wellness is not only stylish and welcoming, but it also does its part to help with moving forward to a kinder, greener world. What could be better for the planet and all of us, too?

As consumers, we are more and more aware of how we want to spend our hard-earned wages, and one element that stands out as popular is traceability kindness to ourselves and at the same time our planet.
