Fragrant Scents

By Louis Lefaix

You walk into a store, and something is up, but you can’t quite make out what. Have you already been here? Surely no, you would’ve remembered. So how come you feel at home here? What is that smell? Fragrant Scents hold such power that they can alter our day-to-day life.

Smell is the strongest human sense. So much so, that it heavily impacts our perception of taste. Likewise, our smell is so powerful that it affects our emotions, perception, and memory.

This is caused by the proximity of the neuron receptors for smell to the brain. They are particularly close to the part of the brain in charge of memory retention and the limbic system which controls emotion.

Flowers, as we know, are beautiful to gaze at but much of our connection may be that moment when we dip our noses into a bunch for a deep breath in, to savour their Fragrant Scents.

It is believed that 75% of emotions are generated by smell. When knowing this, it makes sense for brands to utilise it. This practice is called scent marketing or olfactory marketing.

Research has revealed that certain smells prompt higher levels of spending from customers than others. For example, the presence of freshly baked bread will incite clients to buy from a bakery. Smells can make stores more welcoming, increasing the time spent in store for shoppers.

With smell being such an important part of our lives, it just seems evident to treat our noses properly. As smell can dictate emotions, it can be used to our advantage. Similarly, to how wearing sportswear will get you motivated to work out. We can brighten up our moods by choosing what we smell. Candles are a great tool for that. They can alter your environment to your liking to get you in a certain vibe.

Certain aromas are linked to specific locations. Lavender can remind you of the French Province and its fields of Lavender. Or how your mothers fragrance makes you reminisce of your childhood home. This way, these scents can embark you on an imaginary trip to beautiful places.

Mixmyscent

Now if you are looking for an innovative experience here’s an option. lets introduce you to Mixmyscent by Vicky Bellerby. Indeed their new Scent Destination concept makes you combine already great-smelling candles. Coupled with the candle’s heavy tactile bespoke glass cube, that is either recyclable or refillable. There are five MIXMY primary candles that can be smelled on their own or paired up.

The first is Soft/Floral, which’s heart is lush, heady white blooms. These are supported by sweet Musk and creamy Woods. And a final touch of pink Pepper.

Then we have Berry/Green, which is Tangy Berries, supported by fragrant green Leaf and sharp Elemi. Dry spice Woods to tie all together.

Next is Citrus/Oceanic, which consists of sunbathed citrus fruit mingled with rip Blackcurrant and a hint of Ginger. Refreshing Fir needles and rock pool accords to finish.

Here is Smooth/Ambery, a mix of Cardamom, smoky Incense, Tonka, Vanilla and rock Rose. In addition to Sandalwood, Musk, Patchouli ground and Cologne.

Finally, Wood/Smoulder is the alliance of Cedarwood, Guaiac wood, Birch tar, aged Leather and sweet Tobacco leaf and warm Amber.

Therefore this gives multiple possible pairings. For example, if you combine Soft/Floral with Citrus/Oceanic you obtain the Scent Destination: #SunBathedMediterraneanTerrace. Experiment and find your favourite combination.

To sum up, Smell is a powerful tool that everyone can utilise for their enjoyment. Indeed, you can brighten up your mood with Fragrant Scents. Even embark on a journey from the comfort of your home. Travel before even being on holiday.
