You may not have heard about this as it didn’t receive a lot of press, but Miley Cyrus recently appeared on stage in her underwear as did Lady Gaga. This is of course old hat, Madonna was rocking the famous Jean-Paul Gaultier cone bra way back in 1990 as part of her Blonde Ambition tour. In actual fact if you are lucky enough to be in New York, you can check out that wonderful piece of construction as it is currently at the Brooklyn Museum as part of the International Retrospective The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk
But I think Underwear out there really began with the sex bomb that was 1950s pin up Betty Page. Playfully and sexily wearing underwear to be photographed in, she literally was the original pin up.
At .Cent when planning our lingerie editorial we didn’t want to do the obvious boudoir shoot or anything based in the bedroom. We wanted to take beautiful, empowering underwear out there and to really highlight the stunning pieces we juxtaposed each look against cold and unattractive places. What this juxtaposition highlights is that sometimes seriously hot underwear is the only thing needed to make a woman feel confident, sexy and beautiful.
