The weather is getting colder and we’re feeling the bite. Gone are the days of wallowing in the autumn breeze listening to First Aid Kit’s ‘Emmylou’ and mourning the absence of summer. Here’s a small list of loud artists that will get you jumping around to warm the blood in this frosty climate.
Movie-maker Sofia Coppola enlisted this American act to promote The Bling Ring, a film chronicling the hectic, flashy lifestyle of Hollywood thieves. Pop duo Sleigh Bells return this November to deliver their typically brash and confident sound worthy of waking the dead. Their album Jessica Rabbit (to be released 11 November) features the single ‘Rule Number One’, a thrashing tune that fuses a persistent chorus with bone-breaking production.
This Grammy-nominated hard rock band impressed critics in 2015 with their unapologetically heavy-going album Mister Asylum. 18 November will see them return with their third album The Boy Who Cried Wolf, a project which will hopefully rouse our spirits in gloomy, winter-sodden Britain. To paint a picture of the band’s aesthetic, think James Dean meets back alley tattoo parlour.
The Pretty Reckless
Child-starlet turned heavy rock musician Taylor Momsen has certainly earned her place at the angsty rock party with her band The Pretty Reckless. Their third album, Who You Selling For, will be released on 21 October which will showcase Momsen’s sensual, cigarette-tinged vocals with loud production. If Highly Suspect makes us think of James Dean, it would only be natural for us to think of Momsen as Veronica Lake were she to have ever seduced Joan Jett.
Up-and-coming Swedish duo FELIN have already worked with pop acts Icona Pop and Tove Lo but are now ready to take their career by the reigns with their single ‘Bored’, a thrilling and attitude-heavy tune fronted by Elin Blom’s lively voice. Fans of Sleigh Bells will surely want to check the song out.
