The Factory

By Jo Phillips

When we think of The Factory we may well think of Andy Warhol’s New York City studio space, or you may be sparked into thinking of a factory line where mass production occurred, think Henry Ford and the Ford Model T, the first car to be made on an assembly line. For CHANEL N°5 centenary, the company has developed The FACTORY 5 COLLECTION. A revolutionary experience that has made it possible to produce a completely new collection, with N°5 as its sole ingredient. A collection of limited-edition products inspired by everyday objects, a reminder that wearing N°5 transforms the ordinary. Read more in The Factory Here

The CHANEL FACTORY 5, is a site designed to resemble an ultra-modern factory. It is entirely dedicated to transforming N° 5 into a set of collector’s items; the intersection between robotic precision and human skill.

A special place where the history of the world’s most iconic fragrance meets the future, where the legend of N° 5 continues to reinvent itself each and every day.

“There can be as much value in products that we use regularly as in products that we use for very special occasions. It’s all about the experience these products give you,” says Thomas du Pré de Saint Maur, Chanel’s Head of Global Creative Resources Fragrance and Beauty.

By taking popular consumer items out of their context and dressing them up in the aesthetics of N°5, we return to CHANEL’s first creative gesture: that of transforming a functional object into a desirable luxury item. That’s what CHANEL FACTORY 5 is all about: offering the experience of luxury in everyday life.

Within this celebration see a nod to Pop Art, which transformed everyday objects into works of art. See the roots of both the revolutionary work of mass manufacturing from Henry Ford and the creative approach of Andy Warhol’s pop-art sensibility.

An ephemeral space as well as an immersive experience that serves for a new limited edition collection with N° 5 as its sole ingredient. Find seventeen limited-edition products inspired by everyday objects, that all provide a reminder that wearing N° 5 transforms the ordinary.

In a factory setting, the public will follow the product through the various production line workstations and see as it ends its journey where they can visit the factory store.

From June 29, CHANEL will deploy this industrial scenography across the world’s largest cities. These pop-ups imagined as theme parks dedicated to N°5 will immerse people in a world which mixes that iconic black and white identity of N°5 and the bright colours of pop culture.

Here find limited editions magically transformed into everyday fabulousness. An entertaining experience and a journey around the 17 limited edition collection.

Find the artist within you with a paint tube. Except this one contains N°5 THE BODY. CREAM, paint your skin not with colour but with scent, the skin a perfect canvas. Or paint from a tin, lift off the lid to the N°5 THE SHOWER GEL then lather up fragranced bubbles wash away underwater leaving behind a rose-scented canvas. When not top up with N°5 THE BODY OIL, remove the cap from the oil tin, rub into the skin and any ‘creeky’ bit will smoothly flow and you will be protected from damage

Need a soak because a quick cleanse was just won’t cut the mustard? Then why not fill a bathtub and dissolve the N°5 THE BATH TABLETS. A good soaking and you will be squeaky clean as well as scented and rested. Add in N°5 THE SOAP for added shine so you can zing as bright as a new penny.
