The Harmonist and Her Divine Perfumed Elixirs with Spirit
By Jo Phillips
We talk of perfumes connecting with our memories but what about when a perfume connects with our soul? Just like the idea of perfume making your home smell wonderful, are we not just like our own house as a carrier for scent? Surely both can also have an element of Feng Shui to them, an idea of balanced energy and connectiveness. Like when in a home and all the energy just fits perfectly surely a perfume can be the same? Find out more in The Harmonist and Her Divine Perfumed Elixirs with Spirit
What does that even mean? A perfume in harmony with Feng Shui? Well, this ancient Chinese practice involves arranging objects, spaces, and buildings to achieve balance and harmony with nature and with oneself. The term translates to “wind and water” and is based on the idea that objects contain energy, and the way they are arranged can affect how people feel in a place, and how the very energy within a home can move freely and in a balanced way.
There are five elements of Feng shui, Earth which is stable & grounded, Wood which is vitality & growth, Fire for passion & intuition, Metal for clarity & organization and finally Water which is tranquil and reflective. These elements are assigned to certain compass directions in a home, and the goal is to balance them so they work together harmoniously.
If a room or home is made up of elements then just like when we discuss perfume why should it not also be an energy, a vibration rather than just a sprayed scented liquid? Hang on there…
In the last few years, many fragrances have arrived on the marketplace that brings with them the idea of healing, wellness and energy-giving or even calming effects with the perfume, talking scent into a new style of healing spaces
It is well documented, that perfume is a liquid so when it enters as a vapour let’s say into our nose and works its way through our nose into the limbic system we smell it.
Yet there is another school of thought that perfume is an energy too. Well, why not? Doesn’t science say we are all matter, and that matter and energy are related and can be converted into each other? Therefore we are all energy and so is everything in our world.
Quantum physics is the science that provides evidence that everything, including humans, is made up of energy. One of the greatest minds the modern world has known, Albert Einstein said that everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.
Take this even further and see that Quantum physics has amazing things to say about the energetic nature of reality and how it can free our minds from its superstitions and restrictions. This is also where spirituality and science meet. This may explain why the market now has perfumes that ‘work’ via, say crystals enclosed in the bottle, on your energy systems. Or even scents that work on your nervous system.
Wow, so when we apply a scent to our skin it also seems to have an energetic effect on us and even those around us. Again listen to Einstein talk about matching the frequency, he means that everything we desire has a frequency point. We don’t think about it in those terms but all beings, all things in the universe, vibrate at a certain level.
So let’s get back to perfumes, and explain that the whole reason for the science lesson is that a new brand in the UK The Harmonist is working exactly along these principles, and with the power of Feng Shui.
The brand’s ethos is born from the Chinese philosophy which sees the universe as made up of the five elements that have a vital role to play and relate to an aspect of our lives, so if one or more becomes too strong or too weak, the result is imbalance that can lead to a lack of well-being.
These perfumes are not just about divine scents but about empowering people to use fragrances to help them restore balance and harmony between themselves and the fundamental energies while creating a unique expression of themselves.
On top of this, the five principal energies are governed by two opposing yet complementary energies that lie at the heart of our universe, Yin and Yang.
So now go back to the idea that different notes in perfumery have different energies and bring this all together and see how each scent embodies the qualities of each specific element.
The creator of The Harmonist, Lola Tillyaeva was born in Uzbekistan, Central Asia, a country that once lay at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road as a meeting point for the diverse cultures of East and West. As a child, Lola developed a keen sense of smell along with an appreciation for the evocative power of it.
Lola began studying the art of perfumery and having already studied Feng Shui for several years she decided to found a maison de parfum in 2013 that would translate the profound ideas encapsulated within this philosophy into the language of scent.
She uses her perfume house to encourage each of us on our own journey of self-discovery, inner harmony and balance through the evocative power of smell.
Her Sun & Moon Collection (Prequel Collection) was launched in 2020. Comprising carefully crafted twin scents inspired by our life-giving Sun and Moon.
There is the Ying-Yang of the interdependent spirit of Sun Force and Moon Glory, which embody the duality of the luminous sun and reflective moon through two refined fragrances.
Sun Force captures vibrant Yang energy with long-lasting citrus and woody notes, while Moon Glory embodies Yin with gourmand florals and powdery facets, both unified by notes of Honey and Sandalwood.
From then on the collection has been built into The Yin Transformation, The Yin Collection, Yang Collection and the Elements collection
The Yin Transformation set is crafted for all stages of life’s journey, where the power of water guides our lives. Capture this essence with two fragrances. A citrusy, floral eau de parfum with Top Notes of Calypso Orchid, Mandarin, Bulgarian Rose, alongside Almond Milk, Ylang-Ylang and Iris in its heart with a bsae of White Musk, Sandalwood, Benzoin. As well as a sophisticated floral and creamy parfum or travel spray, with an opening of Bergamot, Mandarin, Pink and Peppercorn with its heart all Calypso Orchid, Bulgarian Rose, and Mate Tea, whilst its base is Iris, Sandalwood, White Musk
The Yin collection encapsulates the calm, reflective nature of Yin energy with a variety of florals. There are seven scents in the range.
For example, Metal Flower opens with Rosoxydes, Aldehydes, and Orange Blossom, Rose of May, Bulgarian Rose, and Ylang-Ylang meet in the heart whilst its base is Patchouli, with White Musk
“We have dedicated years to interpreting the emotions of the five elements into refined fragrances. Now, we invite you to connect with your instinct and trust your senses in your search for a scent…”
Lola Tillyaeva
The Yang Collection is about an energy that is vibrant and here is translated through woody and spicy scents, encouraging us to seize the day and move forward with confidence. There are five scents in the groups including Golden Wood, with its top of Bergamot, Mandarin, and Bitter Orange. Bee Wax, Pear Granita, and Guaiac Wood its centre whilst its base is Oak, Tonka Bean, Cabreuva
Finally the Elements collection. Think of the five, wood, fire, earth, water and metal, the building blocks of all natural phenomena. Interconnected yet opposing, they enhance and diminish each other. Wood feeds fire, but it also parts Earth.
Take for example Guiding Water, a refreshing aquatic fragrance with notes of Watermelon, a floral bouquet anchored by the Lotus flower all enveloped in the softness of White Musk.
All the fragrances in the collection have an emotive effect, whatever your need emotionally the collection will have a scent to heal and be in balance with your needs.
With, say, Guiding Water, this calming fragrance restores the wearer. Think of it like the dew that dapples blossoms in the morning light. The aquatic freshness of ozonic accord and Pink Peppercorn are paired with a bouquet of Cyclamen, Jasmine and Fleur-de-Lys. Fluid and subtle, it’s a delicate Yin scent that awakens and refines.
So you feel pulled into this collection but need to know how you find your perfect scent? Worry not the brand has, on its website, a find your fragrance page, where you can contemplate the perfumes available but also take a find your ‘element test’ that will help you be matched with your perfect elixir. theharmonist.com
Their newest scent is Oud Nebula an Oriental Woody fragrance for women and men. In case you were not aware The Nebula is an enormous cloud of dust and gas that occupies the space between stars and acts like a nursery for new stars. So it is the perfect name for this new elixir. And never forget that in the realm of perfume, Oud is often referred to as black gold it is so precious and loved.
The Harmonist Oud Nebula Parfum is a powerful Yang Energy scent with an uplifting, woody and spicy set of facets. Initially, it envelops in an uplifting, woody, and spicy scent. It follows through with an Amber heart, accentuated by a deep Oud. Then warmed by woods of Cedar and Sandalwood. Alongside find spice of Saffron and Tonka Bean, enhanced by beautiful Bulgarian Rose in a powerful Yang energy. These notes coalesce in a musky softness that is skin-like and becomes one with the wearer.
An important element of all of these perfumes is that they are about reflecting the self, a mimic if you like of the skin you live in. Therefore these are not perfumes that shout out. They initially burst, but then meld perfectly with your skin, your scent adding a stunning facet to the wearing but nothing is ever flash, or over the top. The silage is gentle, musk-like and melds with the wearer.
Each of us possesses all five elements within us. But we are guided by a particular element, which is informed by the date, time and location of our birth, as well as our gender. Therefore it can only make sense to tap into your own energy and tie it into your chosen perfume.
In a time when many of us are struggling with what is going on around us and when science has reached a point of understanding about how our mind and body are centred then surely a fragrance that works in harmony can only be a good thing.
Science has shown that big feelings ‘move’ through the whole of our body, from our heart to our muscles our blood to our brains, so let’s treat them with a bit more olive and respect. Let’s spray ourselves in love and loving-kindness. After all, Einstein talked of us being one, of matching a frequency and being at one with all the frequencies we desire.
