Looking good comes from within. We know a healthy state of mind brings confidence, so feeling great is fundamental to an overall positive and healthy appearance. This takes a lot of inner work and self-care, which is mainly being encouraged for women to do but must not be ignored by the males of our universe. Our dietary habits, the small but secure important rituals we have on a daily basis can further the journey of good mental health.
In Men Looking Good, Naturally, we’ll explore the men’s grooming brand The Fellowship, travel through the film Enjoy (2021) and finish with some food for thought, quite literally.

Looking good outside if part of respecting ourselves, it’s not about looking good for others or conforming to a standard, but taking care of our selves and having self-care rituals. This leads to a healthy mind and body and a healthy glow that reflects feeling good on the inside. Women have much more freedom when it comes to talking about emotional distress, whilst it is well known that men face societal pressures to not express emotion or weakness, so taking a step back to take care of yourself is a way of overcoming this to put yourself first. The film below highlights the issues men may go through when struggling with mental health issues.
Enjoy (2021) Film – Pinzutu Films
Bounding through life with the utmost joy, committed to spreading wonderful energy and positivity into other peoples lives but not feeling this energy for oneself. Enjoy encapsulates this paradox of ‘waving, but drowning’ through its meaningful capacity to understand the melancholy of depression.
With the background noise of the national depression survey questions pulsating through his mind as he swims, the main character Michael struggles to communicate his inner world even to his lovely girlfriend. He is accused of ‘mumbling’ to her and embodying a sullen demeanour, portraying the frustrating cycle of miscommunication and the human limits of empathy.
Expressing his contempt at the world’s problems like climate change through spoken word poetry, and seeking improvements to mental health by being a therapist for children, Michael seeks novel ways to halt his depression. Enjoy communicates what cannot be said. Can unknowable feelings be expressed? To be understood is the true plight of man, perhaps the plight of his life. Taking care of our well-being is for us first and foremost and then for those around us; to be full of the true energy of ourselves is to know what freedom is.
Men looking good naturally is about keeping physical well and looking after ourselves because this is part and parcel of a healthy mind, so a healthy recipe provided especially with men in mind is below.
Fit with Fish Recipe
We know that finding the time to cook and make something from scratch is a key way to say to ourselves that we deserve to eat and feel well. Fish is an excellent component to be included in men’s diets, with zinc supporting spermatogenesis for greater reproductive health, regulating healthy cell reproduction and combatting feelings of fatigue. The Omega-3 within fish does even more for the mind by fighting off depression to keep the brain and the body intertwined in a union of health.
Prepared within 30 minutes, the luxurious, fresh, and indulgent Bloody Mary Prawns recipe gives one of your five-a-day with its tomato and olive oil-rich sauce and is a powerhouse for men’s health with its boost of Omega-3, Zinc and Protein.
Bloody Mary Prawns recipe from Rachel Phipps
- 3 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- ¼ tsp celery salt
- 1 tbsp vodka
- 400g tin cherry tomatoes in juice
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp caster sugar
- 7–8 dashes Tabasco sauce
- 10–12 large raw king prawns, shelled and deveined
- small handful flatleaf parsley, roughly chopped
- Put the garlic and olive oil in a large, cold frying pan. Place the pan over a medium–low heat until the garlic has heated up and softened in the oil.
- Stir in the celery salt, then add the vodka and let the liquid bubble away. Add the cherry tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, sugar and Tabasco sauce. Turn up the heat and bring the sauce to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally and breaking up the tomatoes with the back of the spoon.
- Turn the heat up to medium and stir in the prawns. Cook for 4–5 minutes, or until the prawns are just cooked through.
- Divide between two warm bowls, scatter over the parsley and serve immediately, with crusty bread.
