Shelter; For The Creative
By Jo Phillips
The creative mind is not always a stable one. We are not talking edge of sanity here (although thinking of some of the great artists of the world this may have to be reconsidered), however many a creative suffers from self-doubt, lack of self-belief, lack of faith in their creativity, a level of disorganisation, or other elements which highlight a problem or problems. Of course, this doesn’t mean that these issues don’t effect anyone and everyone, but they are particularly prominent in those that work within the creative industries.
So what to do? Freudian therapy? CBT, primal screaming, yoga; there are just so many choices of how to improve one’s lot in this day and age, many of which require serious commitment and a deep excavation of dark emotional depths. For many, this is too difficult to fit into an already tightly-squeezed schedule; most people have no time to commit to a 3-month yoga retreat or put aside 12 to 18 month’s worth of weekly traumatic self-digging therapy.
What if there was a way forward that was simple and which cut through to the core, simple process that can help you take safe steps forward? Not complex and dippy but straight-forward, practical advice, simple teaching one-to-one with appropriate tools that help you to see the wood for the trees. Whether it be about clearing schedules so that your work practice is more productive, facing your fears of lack of success (perceived, of course), dealing with co-workers, suppliers or customers, or (maybe most dreaded of all) tackling issues with family members, friends, and loved ones.
OK, so you don’t want to go down the route of long-term help which ever way it comes but you feel that for someone to step in and help to clear the woods from the trees would be extremely helpful and a very practical way forward.
