What do you get when you put together a British Prince, an internationally renowned luxury fashion retailer, and six Italian Students? Well to find out more read A Princely Meeting here.
This may well seem like some kind of fashion tall story but it is true. British king in waiting Prince Charles, with his foundation, has come together with luxury e-tailor YOOX NET-A-PORTER and six students from Politecnico di Milano’s Fashion in Process school have come together to create a sustainable fashion collection called The Modern Artisan project.
They have together created an 18 piece collection that is entirely sustainable.
This incredible collection comprises only of high-quality materials including wool and cashmere sourced from Johnstons of Elgin, and organic eco silk sourced from Centro Seta, Italy. Absolutely no synthetic materials were used in this collection. To make these pieces increasingly special, each item comes with its own digital ID which will provide the story behind the product.
“Six Italian students from leading design school Politecnico di Milano’s Fashion in Process (FiP) research laboratory led the design of the YOOX NET-A-PORTER for The Prince’s Foundation collection. Meanwhile British artisans undertook training in small batch productions skills at Dumfries House, the headquarters of The Prince’s Foundation in Ayrshire, Scotland, allowing them to craft the majority of the collection by hand in the estate’s Textile Training Centre. During the manufacturing process, the artisans learnt advanced technical production skills such as industrial sewing, pattern drafting and quality control, while also developing the expertise to handle wool, cashmere and silk fabrics to ensure garment finishes meet the requirements of the luxury market.”
The contrast between analysing large data and artificial intelligence, to the obsolete profession of craftsmanship is becoming less juxtaposed, arming modern artisans with digital tools, the trade will only grow and flourish, especially with the support that this collaboration will provide.
Creativity is often at its best when different thinkers come together like in this case to create for the greater good.
